It was announced today that producers Hal Luftig and Patrick Catullo will bring a new production of the classic rock opera The Who's Tommy back to Broadway in the 2021 season, directed by two-time Tony Award-winner Des McAnuff, who also directed the original Broadway production.

Mabou Mines, the world-renowned experimental theater company that celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2020,will stage the world premiere of Faust 2.0, March 27 April 14, 2019, in the company's newly renovated home at 122 Community Center (150 First Avenue). Adapted by Matthew Maguire, directed by Mabou Mines' Producing Artistic Director Sharon Ann Fogarty, and developed by Mabou Mines over the course of five years, the production is a timely multimedia reimagining of Goethe's Faust, Part II that follows Faust's search for ultimate power on the global stage.

Tonight, NBC will air its fifth live musical production. Following in the footsteps of The Sound of Music, Peter Pan, The Wiz, and Hairspray, the peacock network will be presenting Tim Rice & Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar, a rock opera that tells the story of the final week in the life of Jesus Christ. It begins with the preparation for the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem and ends with the crucifixion. It also highlights the political and interpersonal struggles between Jesus and one of his 12 apostles, Judas Iscariot that are not present in the Bible narratives.
