Field Day 2019 will mark an evolution of gigantic proportions as it moves to a ground-breaking new location in Meridian Water, North London. Situated next to Tottenham Marshes at an old gas works, the new site is made up of an enormous ten-acre outdoor space with four giant, interlinked warehouses, the largest of which will be the biggest warehouse venue for music in the city (7,500 cap). Robert Mapplethorpe is arguably one of the most important artists of the 20th century. Mapplethorpe discovered himself both sexually and artistically in New York City throughout the 70's and 80's. The film depicts Mapplethorpe's life from moments before he and Patti Smith moved into the famed Chelsea hotel, home to a world of bohemian chic. Here, he begins photographing its inhabitants and his new found circle of friends including artists and musicians, socialites, film stars, and members of the S&M underground.  

La MaMa is proud to present the Remote Theater Project production of Grey Rock, written and directed by Palestinian artist Amir Nizar Zuabi. This world premiere, which runs January 3-7, 2019, was commissioned by Remote Theater Project and marks the first time a U.S. theater company has commissioned a Palestinian artist to create an original work for American audiences. Grey Rock tells the story of a young Palestinian so enamored with the 1969 American moon landing that he muses, "shouldn't Palestine, the land of prophets, also have a presence on the moon?" Without money or technology, but with the help of his bemused West Bank neighbors, he sets out to build a space shuttle. Knowing full well that he can't succeed with this impossible, but necessary, task, the young man is visited by American heroes who guide him on his mission. Humorous and fantastical, Grey Rock explores the influence that America has had over Palestinian culture.

My Brightest Diamond is excited to announce the November 23rd release of her new full-length studio album – A Million And One – via Rhyme & Reason Records.  My Brightest Diamond's Shara Nova produced the new LP along with Grammy-nominated producer Anthony “The Twilite Tone” Khan (Gorillaz, Kanye West, Common) and the 10-song set was mixed by Grammy-award winning engineer Andrew Scheps (Adele, Lana Del Rey).  Nova really honed in on her song form, a purposeful move after previously pushing herself to break out of traditional song writing devices.  She wrote more than fifty songs in the process ultimately narrowing this down to the ten that are A Million And One.

Last night Taylor Mac performed a stirring rendition of Patti Smith's iconic "People Have the Power" on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, with members of Stay Human, the Jon Batiste-fronted house band, and Mac's own ensemble. Taylor also chatted with Stephen about A 24-Deacde History of Popular Music among other topics.

Sakina's Restaurant, the Obie Award-winning play written and performed by actor, writer, and former correspondent for "The Daily Show" Aasif Mandvi (Disgraced), is excited to collaborate with New American Economy (NAE), a national organization bringing together leaders in support of immigration reforms, for a night of conversation with Mandvi and NAE Executive Director, Jeremy Robbins. On Wednesday, September 26, SAKS FIFTH AVENUE hosted a performance and book signing with author and singer-songwriter PATTI SMITH as part of Saks' 'FEARLESS WOMEN' SPEAKER SERIES, a weekly showcase of game changing women in fashion, entertainment and beyond. Warehouse Theatre will present The Sam Shepard Festival, a theatre repertory series honoring the American playwright Sam Shepard. The Festival will include fully staged productions of the Pulitzer Prize winning play Buried Child, the Tony Award winning play True West, and the semi-autobiographical play Cowboy Mouth, as well as readings on Curse of the Starving Class, Heartless, and Fool for Love.
