Review: BROADWAY SHOWSTOPPERS WITH GLENN ROSENBLUM Part 1 at CVRep

When you can hear a room audibly smile, then you know you are in the presence of Glenn Rosenblum. He’s charming, clever, witty, playfully spills the Tea, shows off his encyclopedic knowledge regarding all things Broadway, and displays his utmost respect for this genre of entertainment.

Review: RUDDIGORE at Gilbert And Sullivan Society Of Houston

Boy, I wanted to enjoy this way more. I have been an ardent fan of the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Houston since I moved to Houston in 2021, and their post-pandemic performance of HMS Pinafore left me excited for future G&S Society of Houston productions. In 2023, they followed up HMS with Pirates of Penzance (the first of what I hope are many showings of this production), and again, I was excited to see what 2024 would bring. Unfortunately, with a change of venue, while there were some incredible performances, much was left to be desired.

Review: The Muny Honors Tradition with a Classic Performance of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF

What did our critic think of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF at The Muny? What can be said about an absolutely perfect production of one of the most well written musicals of all time? Hurling superlatives seems cliché but there is nothing about The Muny’s latest offering of the classic FIDDLER ON THE ROOF that can be criticized. From the opening when the town’s residents circle to share their “Traditions,” to their closing moments mourning the loss of their community “Anatevka,” this production makes you laugh and cry, and laugh and cry repeatedly. It is emotion-packed storytelling at its finest with superb direction, divine choreography, outstanding orchestral accompaniment, pristine sound, and a dream cast acting and singing at the top of their game. The costume, set, video, and lighting design are picture perfect.

Review: PETER PAN at Hollywood Pantages Theatre

In attempting to reinvent Peter Pan for a modern audience, NETworks Presentations has embraced a major challenge. On the one hand, they have a gem. Jerome Robbins’ original production was packed with humor, heart, and adventures that captivated generations of audiences, not to mention a beautifully dynamic score by Morris ‘Moose’ Charlap.
