Today, Calexico and Iron & Wine share the gorgeous second single from their upcoming album, Years to Burn, entitled “Midnight Sun.” In “Midnight Sun,”Calexico's Joey Burns and Sam Beam of Iron & Wine trade haunted-sounding verses over shimmering steel until the song devolves into a corrosive electric lead from Burns, like a dying siren. The video makes use of over 100 paintings Beam did for the creation of the new album's cover. Working with animator Jonny Sanders, the video brings to life in a spirited and fun way, the many images of Burns, Beam and Calexico drummer John Convertino. Watch the video HERE.

Internationally renowned, multiple award winning performer, Yael Rasooly, brings her newest cabaret show, Love Must Have an End, to Don't Tell Mama for two performances: May 9th at 7pm and May 11th at 4pm. The richly decadent world of the 1920s and '30s in Berlin and Paris is on dazzling display in this performance by Rasooly and Pianist, Daniel Rein. Audiences are invited into the vibrant world of the German cabaret before the Nazis rose to power, through the repertoire of Brecht and Weill, the Berlin cabaret songs, songs performed by Marlene Dietrich and the poetic French chansons of Edith Piaf. Rasooly and Rein tell the stories of the back streets and alleys, as well as the glamour and exuberance in the final years of the Weimar Republic - stories of longing, grief, love, passion, resilience and dreams in the fragile and powerful interval between the past and the future.

THE BOOK OF MORMON, which is running for one week at the Providence Performing Arts Center until April 28th, follows two Mormon Missionaries as they attempt to preach the Mormon religion to the inhabitants of a remote Ugandan village. The earnest young men are challenged by the lack of interest of the locals, who are distracted by more pressing issues such as AIDS, famine and oppression from the village warlords. The play makes light of various Mormon beliefs and practices, but ultimately endorses the positive power of love and service, while at the same time being the raunchiest play I have ever seen, while at the same time being one of the most entertaining shows I have ever seen. The script, lyrics, and music were written by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone. Parker and Stone were best known for creating the animated comedy South Park. Lopez had co-written the music for the musical Avenue Q. These three have created a deeply offensive, great night of theater.
