The Central Works 2016 Season closes with Into the Beautiful North, a new play by Karen Zacarias opening Saturday October 15 in the historic Berkeley City Club. This production marks CW's first partnership with the National New Play Network for this Rolling World Premiere. Into the Beautiful North is based on the novel by Pulitzer Prize finalist Luis Alberto Urrea and inspired by the classic Hollywood western The Magnificent Seven.

Cal State Fullerton's 2016-2017 season opens with the 2003 Pulitzer Prize winner Anna in the Tropics, written by Nilo Cruz, directed by Fidel Gomez and runs September 23-October 9, 2016 in the Young Theatre on campus.

Los Angeles Performance Practice and The Bootleg Theater, in association with Aurora Nova Productions, presents the Los Angeles premiere of Nassim Soleimanpour's slyly inventive White Rabbit Red Rabbit as part of the 2016 LAX  (Live Arts Exchange) Festival. 

La Jolla Playhouse announces the cast and creative team for its world-premiere production of Miss You Like Hell, book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegria Hudes (In the Heights, Water by the Spoonful), music and lyrics by acclaimed singer/songwriter Erin McKeown, directed by Lear deBessonet (Public Theatre's The Odyssey) and choreographed by Danny Mefford (Broadway's Fun Home). Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, is pleased to announce the recipients of the first round of the 2016 Edgerton Foundation New Play Awards. The awards, totaling $580,000, allow 15 productions extra time in the development and rehearsal of new plays with the entire creative team, helping to extend the life of the play after its first run. Two more rounds of recipients will be announced later this year.

The Hermitage Artist Retreat is pleased to announce that its coveted Greenfield Prize Commission, play BATHING IN MOONLIGHT by Nilo Cruz, is set to premiere in Princeton, NJ this fall at McCarter Theatre Center's Roger S. Berlind Theatre. The 2014 Greenfield Prize in drama is a $30,000 commission in exchange for a new work to be presented within two years.

Although Kevin Newbury has directed operas by some of history's greatest composers--Donizetti and Bellini, Strauss and Mozart among them—he makes no bones about it: He prefers his composers to be living. (Librettists, too, of course)

This regularly scheduled program of play readings provides playwrights a platform to develop their plays-in-progress, and will give audiences opportunities to experience exciting new work throughout the year. The Reading Series adds to VG's current programming of world premieres and new plays and the IGNITION Festival of New Plays.
