Miami New Drama's 7 DEADLY SINS Extended for the Second Time

Miami New Drama has announced a second extension for their critically acclaimed production of 7 Deadly Sins: Temptation in the Magic City. The innovative, site-specific and socially distanced theatrical event, performed in seven vacant storefronts along Miami Beach’s historic Lincoln Road, will now play through Sunday, January 31.
Recipients Announced for 2020 Steinberg Playwright Awards

The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust today announced the names of the 20 outstanding early-to-mid-career playwrights who will be celebrated with 2020 Steinberg Playwright Awards in the amount of $10,000 each. As previously announced, these awards are being given in response to this extremely difficult year, and in an effort to better meet the immediate and pressing needs of playwrights.

The Five Moons of Lorca is a combination ballet and choral work that tells of the life and death of early twentieth century Spanish poet and playwright Federico Garcia Lorca. He called for a return to the origins of European Theatre and he questioned the social mores of contemporary theatrical practice regarding homosexuality and women's roles.

Los Angeles Opera opens its Digital Shorts Series with Gabriela Lena Frank’s commissioned revision of The Five Moons of Lorca, (Las Cinco Lunas de Lorca). This collaborative piece involves the work of librettist Nilo Cruz, choreographer Irene Rodríguez, and filmmaker Matthew Diamond. Musicians include countertenor Jacob Ingbar, pianist Nicholas Roehler, and members of the LA Opera Chorus. The Five Moons of Lorca, will be streamed through December 25, 2020.

Miami New Drama has announced casting, creative team and production dates for Seven Deadly Sins: Temptation in the Magic City, an innovative, site-specific event which will be presented from November 27 through January 3 in seven vacant storefronts along Miami Beach's historic Lincoln Road. Opening night is Saturday, December 5.

The 44th annual Bay Area Playwrights Festival (BAPF) runs July 17-25, 2021 with playwrights invited to apply in September through October 16th, 2020. Following a flourishingly successful online Bay Area Playwrights Festival 2020 that gathered audiences and artists from all over the world, Playwrights Foundation applications are now open for the 2021 Festival.
SCR Launches Community Engagement Initiative With MASA

Artistic Director David Ivers and Managing Director Paula Tomei today announce a new initiative, SCR Community, an online series of free readings, events, interviews and community-centered stories to engage Southern California with the power of live theatre during the COVID-19 pandemic. The series starts on Aug. 17, at 5:30 p.m., with MASA, a live, online fiesta with readings of four short pieces relating to the historical and cultural importance of masa.

IAMA Joins Forces With ScreenCraft To Present Third Annual 'Stage Play Writing Competition'

IAMA Theatre Company has joined forces with ScreenCraft to present the third annual Stage Play Writing Competition. IAMA co-artistic director Stefanie Black will join a jury of industry professionals to help choose the winning script, which will receive a $1,000.00 cash prize; be circulated to Screencraft's network of playwrights, theater companies, producers, literary managers, agents and award-winning writers; and be given a weeklong workshop, produced by IAMA and culminating in a reading before an audience of writers and entertainment industry professionals.

It was just announced by Pulitzer Prize Administrator Dana Canedy that Michael R. Jackson's A Strange Loop has officially won the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. This year's finalists included: Will Arbery's Heroes of the Fourth Turning and David Henry Hwang and Jeanine Tesori's Soft Power.
