Playwrights Foundation, the West Coast's premier launchpad for exceptional new plays and playwrights, has announced its lineup for the 45th Annual Bay Area Playwrights Festival (BAPF) which will be presented as a hybrid (in-person and streamed) festival July 29 - August 7, 2022. Selected from 240 applicants via a committee process with 150 readers (the majority of whom are also playwrights), five powerful plays by five exciting new voices will receive public readings and workshops in this year's festival.

This new adaptation of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest will begin performances at the Westbury performance space in June. A Noise Within (ANW), California’s acclaimed classic repertory theatre company, announces the fifth production of its 30th anniversary season, Nilo Cruz’s Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, Anna in the Tropics, directed by ANW’s Director of Cultural Programming Jonathan Muñoz-Proulx (he/him).  The play runs now through April 17, 2022, with a Sunday Rush performance on April 10 at 7:00 p.m. All remaining tickets for the Sunday evening performance are $25. Tickets are available online now for the performance with the code SUNDAYRUSH while selecting seats OR mention “SUNDAY RUSH” after 2 p.m. on the day of the performance at the box office window.

Ana Villafañe to Play Daughter of Fidel Castro, Alina Fernandez, in Upcoming Biopic

Ana Villafaña will play Alina Fernandez in Alina of Cuba: La Hija Rebelde. The film follows the Cuban American immigrant and human rights advocate who was born to Fidel Castro and Natalia “Naty” Revuelta as the result of an affair. Fernandez eventually became one of Castro's most outspoken critics and was arrested on multiple occasions.

Tacoma Arts Live's Regional Theater Program presents Anna in the Tropics, a poignant and poetic play that garnered the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for then unknown Cuban-American playwright Nilo Cruz. Anna will open for a preview on Thursday, March 24 at 7:30 p.m., plus seven additional performances through April 10 at Tacoma's Theater on the Square.
