A FEW DEEP BREATHS Comes to La MaMa This Week

Each of the writers worked independently to generate dialogue and/or actions for two performers, one playing a 7-year-old and the other a 77-year-old. The non-linear tale that emerges is developed in collaboration with creative technologists, embodied by performance artist Agosto Machado and a puppet by Tom Lee, performed by Leah Ogawa and Maria Camia, and will explore interactivity and connection with the online audience.

BRING A WEASEL AND A PINT OF YOUR OWN BLOOD Infamous Festival Of New Plays Is Back!

Weasel Festival (whose full official Mac-Wellman-given title is Bring a Weasel and A Pint of Your Own Blood) has served as a showcase for recent graduates in Brooklyn College's MFA playwriting program for the last 14-odd years. Alumni include: Tina Satter (Is This a Room), Annie Baker (The Flick), Young Jean Lee (Straight White Men), Sarah DeLappe (The Wolves), Jess Barbagallo (Weekend At Barry's), Clare Barron (Dance Nation), Haruna Lee (Suicide Forest), Dennis Allen II (When We Wake Up Dead) and many more!

SOPAC Receives Grant From Investors Foundation For Arts Education Programs

The South Orange Performing Arts Center recently received a $5,000 grant from the Investors Foundation. The grant will help further SOPAC's Arts Education Programs, which invest in students and future artists by providing arts instruction in alignment with NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards for the Performing Arts, enhancing the arts curriculum in local school districts.

Winners Announced for 2022 JUNO Awards Opening Night

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) honoured artists and industry leaders at the helm of Canada’s music scene tonight at the 2022 JUNO Opening Night Awards Presented by Ontario Creates, which took place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Co-hosted by Angeline Tetteh-Wayoe (CBC Music’s The Block) and Ann Pornel (The Great Canadian Baking Show), the renowned industry event saw five show-stopping performances and the presentation of 41 JUNO Awards, along with The Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award, the Humanitarian Award Presented by Music Canada and the MusiCounts Inspired Minds Ambassador Award Presented by Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation.

Music Theater Heritage has released the first look at its regional premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s SONG & DANCE. The production is led by Emily Shackelford and directed by Jessalyn Kincaid with choreography by Caroline Dahm. The official music video for renowned singer, songwriter and musician Cody Jinks’ song, “Hurt You,” is debuting today—the first official video of Jinks’ career. Watch/share HERE. Filmed at Thistle Hill Estate in Whitesboro, Texas, “Hurt You” was directed by Amos David McKay with Austin-based production shop Two Headed Boy, in association with Fort Worth’s Red Production Company.

BWW Review: AFTERWORDS at The 5th Avenue Theatre

Dear Readers, by now you know that one of my major pet peeves for any show is what I call “someone else’s therapy on stage”. Other people’s problems just aren’t interesting, and I don’t need to see you work through them. Such is the first issue of many I have with the new musical “Afterwords”, currently playing at the 5th Avenue Theatre. The second main issue being that the show appears to have been written with a cliché search engine.
