Just last night, the 2018 Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway were handed out to recipients in 19 categories, with three honorary awards also bestowed. This year's event was once again a benefit for The Actors Fund.
Mike Birbiglia's return to off-Broadway in The New One is extending. On Wednesday, the run at the Cherry Lane Theatre sold out within hours of being put on sale. Even Birbiglia was a little taken aback, directing his Twitter followers to keep refreshing their browser because he didn't think it was possible it could sell out that quickly. The New One producer Mike Lavoie said, 'I haven't seen anything like this since we produced Oh, Hello at the Cherry Lane. It was then that we knew that we had a potential hit Broadway show and that's exactly what happened. Looks like Broadway may be in the future for The New One as well.' In the meantime, The New One is extending two more weeks. There's another show coming in to the Cherry Lane on August 27, so August 25 is absolutely the last performance there will be at this location.
