Adapted from the play of the same name, NORA HIGHLAND follows the casting process of a notable gay character in an upcoming Broadway revival and explores the phenomenon of straight performers being lauded for their work in queer roles.

Red Bull Theater today announced that André De Shields will be honored with the Matador Award for Extraordinary Achievement in Classical Theater at REVELRY, its benefit event on Monday June 13th at 6pm.

Producer Michael Urie has announced that Happy Birthday Doug – the comedy written and performed by Drew Droege (the Internet’s “Chloë,” “Drunk History,” “Bob’s Burgers,” RuPaul’s “AJ and the Queen” on Netflix) – will return Off-Broadway for a special Pride weekend engagement for four shows only from June 23-26 at 7:00 PM.

The World premiere production of Dave Harris’ new work, “Tambo & Bones,” opened in Los Angeles at the Center Theatre Group’s Kirk Douglas Theatre on May 8 and continues through May 29. Go inside opening night below!

RED BULL THEATER today announced that its online offerings will continue on Monday May 9th at 7:30 PM with a RemarkaBULL Podversation, Exploring Lady Macbeth with Ismenia Mendes. This event is “Pay What You Can.” All of Red Bull’s online-only programs are FREE. 

The Fisher Center at Bard will present a bold, gender-reframed, era-transcending vision of Molière’s 1665 tragicomedy Dom Juan, conceived and directed by Ashley Tata, with a new translation from NYU Professor of ​​French Literature  and theater scholar Sylvaine Guyot and Fisher Center Artistic Director Gideon Lester.

Alan Cumming, André De Shields, Alexandra Billings, and Michael Urie are among the celebrities shining a light on how taxpayer dollars are being used to fund LGBTQ+ discrimination at faith-based schools and colleges. 

Mixing history, mystery, sword play and word play, JANE ANGER takes a jab at right-sizing Shakespeare and does so with hilarious results. Billed as a “Jacobean feminist revenge Comedy,” the one-act play written by Talene Monahon provides ample opportunity for us to hate on the egotistical bard while still swooning for the versatile actor who plays him (Michael Urie).

This week I saw productions of two decades-old musicals, each written by one of theatre's great composer/lyricists, which, in their original productions, ran a combined total of nine performances on Broadway.

Skylar Astin has joined the cast of Grey's Anatomy as a new recurring character. The Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist star will play Todd Eames, who has a PhD in environmental sciences, is close with his sister who is currently a pregnant patient at Grey Sloan Memorial.

On March 14, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater will present a star-studded reading of legendary playwright Terrence McNally's Unusual Acts of Devotion, presented in partnership with Tom Kirdahy Productions. The Benefit will be held at the Daryl Roth Theatre (101 E 15th Street), followed by a cocktail party.

 Fault Line Theatre will continue the 2022 Season of Irons in the  Fire, the organization’s reading series of new plays in development, with God Save the Queer by Zackary Grady, directed by Portia Krieger and featuring Michael Urie (George), Mallory Portnoy (Charlotte), Keshav Moodliar (Tariq), Seth Clayton (Louis), and Mary McCann (Kate).
