First Floor Theater (FFT) is thrilled to remount THE AWAKE, Ken Urban's lyrical and highly theatrical exploration of interrogation, government control, and the compulsive power of dreams, directed by Josh Altman, as part of the Chicago Park District's Theater on the Lake 2016 Festival Season at the Berger Park Cultural Center.

What a time for THE TAMING OF THE SHREW. It's a brave choice given its divisive, misogynistic text, but Shakespeare Theatre Company pulls it off under the bold direction of Ed Sylvanus Iskander. With an all-male cast, and featuring the contemporary pop music of Tony winner Duncan Sheik, this is Shakespeare with a decidedly modern sensibility.

Due to the Helen Hayes Awards ceremony, Shakespeare Theatre Company's THE TAMING OF THE SHREW will celebrate Opening Night and Press Night today, May 24. Previews begin on May 17 and performances continue through June 26 at STC's Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW).

Next at Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC), stage and screen actors Maulik Pancholy (Weeds, 30 Rock) and Peter Gadiot (Once Upon a Time in Wonderland) will be seen playing Katherina and Petruchio respectively in Ed Sylvanus Iskandar's bold new interpretation of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. Iskandar, known for his striking and immersive directorial style, completes STC's 2015-2016 season with this production, playing in Sidney Harman Hall from May 17 to June 26, 2016.

The New Group presents the world premiere of STEVE, a new play by Mark Gerrard. Directed by Cynthia Nixon, this production features Ashlie Atkinson and Francisco Pryor Garat, and as announced, Mario Cantone, Jerry Dixon,Malcolm Gets and Matt McGrath. A limited Off-Broadway engagement plays now through December 27 at The Pershing Square Signature Center (The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre, 480 West 42nd Street). Last night at GLSEN's Respect Awards in New York City, Glee's Matthew Morrison was honored with the Inspiration Award for portraying a shining example of the vital role a supportive educator can have in creating an affirming, positive and supportive school culture for LGBT students.
