Interview: Naomi Rose-Mock of PARADE at Arts@Faith

For 105 people per night over the course of eight performances, Rose-Mock brought to life Alfred Uhry’s book and Jason Robert Brown’s lyrics about Leo Frank, a Jewish factory superintendent who was tried, convicted and lynched after being accused of murdering Mary Phagan, a 13-year-old who had worked at the factory.

THE CAKE Comes to Whidbey Island Center for the Arts

 Faith, family and frosting collide in The Cake, a touching and timely play by Tony-nominated playwright Bekah Brunstetter, who received the nomination this year for The Notebook on Broadway. Opening at the Whidbey Island Center for the Arts (WICA) on October 11, The Cake is based loosely on the Supreme Court case against the baker who refused to bake a wedding cake for a same sex couple.

On October 19, Theatre 40 in Beverly Hills is presenting a reading of All These Women, written and directed by Melanie MacQueen. Centering on the newly elected president Woodrow Wilson, the story delves into how the Women’s Suffrage Parade pushed him to finally agree to Voting Rights for All. I decided to speak with Melanie about how the play came into being, her plans to present it as a reading, and how she plans to keep presenting it in the future.
