Atlantic for Kids' 2017-2018 Season will open Saturday, September 16 with the family musical Polkadots: The Cool Kids Musical, inspired by Ruby Bridges and the Little Rock Nine featuring music by Greg Borowsky and Douglas Lyons, lyrics and concept by Douglas Lyons, book by Melvin Tunstall III and direction by Tamilla Woodard.

Atlantic Theater Company presents the world premiere production of the new musical The Band's Visit, directed by Lortel and Obie Award winner David Cromer and featuring a book by Drama Desk Award nominee Itamar Moses, an original score by three-time Tony Award nominee David Yazbek, choreography by Patrick McCollum and movement by Lee Sher. The Band's Visit began previews November 11 and opened just last night at Atlantic Theater Company's Linda Gross Theater (336 West 20th Street).
Just last night, Sarah Ruhl was honored with the 2016 Steinberg Distinguished Playwright Award at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. The evening featured performances of Ruhl's work by Blair Brown, Kathleen Chalfant, Maria Dizzia, Jessica Hecht, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Polly Noonan and Joseph J. Parks. The Off Broadway Alliance, the organization of Off Broadway producers, theaters, general managers, press agents and marketing professionals, presented the 6th annual Off Broadway Alliance Awards on June 21st at Sardi's, honoring outstanding achievement in Off Broadway theatre for the 2015 - 2016 season. Honorees were on hand to receive their awards and Anne Jackson & Eli Wallach, Anne Meara, and Elizabeth Swados were posthumously inducted into the Off Broadway Hall of Fame. The American Theatre Wing (Heather Hitchens, President) and The Village Voice (Peter Barbey, Owner) have announced the winners of the 61st Annual Obie Awards. Rajiv Joseph's Guards at the Taj, produced by the Atlantic Theater Company, received the Obie Award® for Best New American Play, which is accompanied by a $1,000 prize. Legendary actor/dancer/choreographer Carmen de Lavallade and renowned playwright A.R. Gurney each received a special Obie Award® for Lifetime Achievement. Obie and Screen Actors Guild® Award-winning actress Lea DeLaria returned as host of this year's ceremony, which was held at Webster Hall (125 East 11th Street).
