With Girl on an Altar by Marina Carr running and Zodwa Nyoni’s The Darkest Part of the Night in rehearsals, Kiln Theatre Artistic Director Indhu Rubasingham today announced the return of Zadie Smith’s The Wife of Willesden to the venue, running from 14 December to 28 January.

The main hub will be the Junction Festival Dome. This wonderful structure will be at Kickham Barracks, familiar to regional audiences from Clonmel’s In The Open Faoin Spéir projects, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Waterford Spraoi’s PRISM.

Last year TikTok went mad for Madeline Miller’s book Song of Achilles, Ivo van Hove brought his mash-up of myths to the Barbican at the start of the month, and the Almeida’s latest project is being compared to a Greek masterpiece. With Marina Carr’s Girl on an Altar opening later this month, Artistic Director of Kiln Theatre Indhu Rubasingham today announces a major revival of Moira Buffini’s critically acclaimed Handbagged. Reprising their roles are Marion Bailey as ‘Q’, an Older Queen Elizabeth II and Kate Fahy as ‘T’, an Older Margaret Thatcher, with further cast to be announced shortly.

Annabelle Comyn directs Nina Bowers (Cassandra), Daon Broni (Aegisthus), Jim Findley (Tyndareus), Kate Stanley Brennan (Cilissa), David Walmsley (Agamemnon) and Eileen Walsh (Clytemnestra).

Following their productions of 44 Plays for 44 Presidents, (2012) and the remounted and updated 45 Plays for 45 Presidents (2016), Pro Rata of course said yes when the playwrights asked TPR directly to be a part of a rolling premiere of their new play: a ‘hot off the press’ and unpublished 46 Plays for America’s First Ladies.

Audiences will have another chance to watch this critically acclaimed major adaption from Marina Carr and directed for the stage by Annabelle Comyn as it returns for a limited on-demand video stream this spring.
