Sherman Theatre and Frân Wen present Imrie a magical coming of age Welsh language play written by rising star of Welsh theatre Nia Morais and directed by Gethin Evans Running at Sherman Theatre 11 – 20 May and touring 23 May – 16 June.

Sherman Theatre has announced the first productions of this celebratory year with a diverse range of both emerging and established voices in Welsh theatre taking centre stage. Over the course of the year, communities across Cardiff and South Wales will once again see their experience represented on the Sherman’s stages with work in both Welsh and English.

​​​​​​​Contrasting a patriarchal city in which Lysanna cannot pursue her love for Hermia with a fairy society where Queen Titania is the one calling the shots, Sherman Artistic Director Joe Murphy's irreverent A Midsummer Night's Dream is a play on gender with a sprinkling of Welsh fairy dust.

Each week five new short plays, will be performed as a collection together by 10 actors. The audience decide who plays who and their props and costumes.

Artistic Director Lisa Spirling today announces an entire year of programming for 2020 at the home of new writers, including the news that all four remaining finalists of the 2018 Theatre503 International Playwriting Award will be staged at the venue by November 2020. This follows on from the success of Award winner Out of Sorts by Danusia Samal premiering in October 2019. In February, the search for the best debut and emerging writers in the world will begin again as the 2020 Theatre503 International Playwriting Award opens for submissions.

Today, Cardiff's pub theatre The Other Room, located in Porter's and winner of The Stage's Fringe Theatre of the Year Award, announces its Autumn 2019 season, entitled THE VIOLENCE SERIES. The season is an anthology of three brand new plays commissioned and produced by The Other Room, with work from writers Matthew Bulgo, Tess Berry-Hart and Mari Izzard. The season will run at The Other Room from August and will then tour Wales and England in the Spring of 2020.

Opening at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley, the tour will then visit Norwich, Cambridge, Salford, Leicester, Woking, Truro, Birmingham and Richmond, with further dates in 2017.

Opening at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley, the tour will then visit Norwich, Cambridge, Salford, Leicester, Woking, Truro, Birmingham and Richmond, with further dates in 2017. There will be a press night at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley on Thursday 22 September at 7.30pm.
