The iconic tale of The Little Match Girl returns to New York City on its new date – Friday, April 8, 2022 (originally slated for January 22, but postponed due to COVID), in a special concert presentation presented by Oxygen Media and Emma Wang in association with Nava Wang. It will be performed in The Nave at Riverside Church (490 Riverside Drive).

YAYA KIDS THEATER and TING WANG have announced New York Premiere production of the musical THE LITTLE MATCH GIRL, directed and choreographed by the award-winning Greg Ganakas. Based on the story by Hans Christian Anderson, with book by Oxygen Media, lyrics and additional book by Jeff Edmond and music and musical direction by Alastair William King, THE LITTLE MATCH GIRL will play a two-week limited engagement at Off-Broadway's St. Luke's Theatre (308 West 46th Street, NYC). Performances begin Thursday, February 13 and continue through Sunday, February 23. Opening Night is Saturday, February 15 (2 p.m.). On Saturday, August 10, I had the pleasure of seeing JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT spectacularly performed by a talented cast at the Sharon Playhouse, in Sharon, CT.  Marking the fiftieth anniversary of this very first musical collaboration between songwriter Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Tim Rice, this show remains entertaining to audiences across multiple generations.

Over the weekend I had the absolute pleasure of seeing Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods reimagined at the Storch Theatre in the Syracuse Stage Complex. Director David Lowenstein brilliantly brings those fairy tale stories and characters to life as if they were written and created for present times. Lowenstein and his cast of Syracuse University Drama students offer up a refreshing and captivating production that relates back to modern day sociopolitical issues, the celebrities in the news etc. The numerous pop culture references add to the experience, not detract from it.

The Syracuse University (SU) Department of Drama is performing the powerful and engaging music of German composer Kurt Weill in its production of Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill: A Musical Voyage at the Storch Theatre at Syracuse Stage. The entertaining production, directed by Syracuse University faculty member David Lowenstein, sets course from 1930s Berlin to 1950s America, the time in which Weill's avant-garde style and gorgeous music gained international fame.
