Flushing Town Hall will celebrate the vibrant choreography of New York's diverse, Asian American, contemporary dance community at 7:30 PM on Friday, June 11 when it presents the 7th Season of Nai-Ni Chen's CrossCurrent Contemporary Dance Festival.

Teatro La Quindicina takes a bow on their 2018 season with a madcap Stewart Lemoine screwball comedy. Not seen since 2003, this classic caper is set in the world of magazine publishing in 1950s Manhattan. A famous literary hoax begets a further series of deceptions, misunderstandings, and outright lies, until things come to a head in the smallest hotel room in New York.

This evening, the 34th Annual Helen Hayes Awards celebrated Washington's diverse and vital theatre community with a gala event at The Anthem, recognizing 258 Helen Hayes Award nominees and 48 award recipients drawn from 202 eligible productions presented at 64 theatres in 2017. GALA Hispanic Theatre's Spanish-language production of Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegria Hudes' In The Heights received nine awards, putting them at the top of a list of 20 theatres receiving Helen Hayes Awards this year.

'Wreck the Halls' - It's Christmas Eve and Team Scorpion's electronics-free mountain getaway turns deadly when they come across gun-runners, and Ralph is kidnapped when they try to escape. Bart Shatto is a star performer. I first heard Bart with the famed theatrical-rock group The Trans-Siberian Orchestra. He's sung on a couple of their recordings, but toured the country with them for many years, notably singing the songs Old Town Bar seen below. Then I first saw Bart while he played Bud in Marriott Lincolnshire Theatre's fantastic production of The Bridges of Madison County. But Shatto is not only from the world of rock, but the world of theatre, performing in many shows on Broadway & Touring shows including The Civil War, Hands on A Hardbody and Dracula. Shatto also played the pivotal role of Jean Valjean in the Broadway & Touring cast of Les Miserables and played Gus/Growltiger in the National Tour of Cats.

Imagination Stage's production, directed by Kathryn Chase Bryer) takes elements of Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and adds a bit of his poem, 'The Jabberwocky' to create a musical filled with catchy rock and roll tunes.

Comedy. Shakespeare. Theatre. Fear is it all and then some.

Portland Center Stage opens up the season with SWEENEY TODD, THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET, and a powerhouse ensemble makes this musical too impressive to miss. A great shot at show-of-the-year and a high end production that is packing the house. Tune in!
