Like a mid-century nightclub star from an old movie, Nicolas King is as slick as a patent-leather pump SHAKING THE BLUES AWAY.

This month, 54 BELOW will present some of the brightest stars from Broadway, cabaret, jazz, and beyond.

The arrangements are harmonically sophisticated, drawing on the open tunings and intricate fingerpicking of English songwriters like Nick Drake or Richard Thompson. Ellis’s performances are similarly subtle and nuanced, tapping into the bittersweet longing of Chet Baker and the playful poignancy of Bill Evans and Jim Hall.

James McMurtry – a tall, quiet, enigmatic, and well-respected songwriter, and son of novelist Larry McMurtry – and BettySoo, a five-foot powerhouse of a singer and guitar player, award-winning songwriter, and second-generation Korean-American Texan – had been on tour together throughout the spring.

International sensation and Broadway legend in her own mind, Amanda Reckonwith will perform in concert at PANGEA, razzle-dazzling with high comedy and even higher notes.

Portland Center Stage has revealed its 2023-2024 Season. The eight-play lineup kicks off in September with a mix of spectacular, fierce, and engaging plays offering a thrilling balance of beloved classics, iconic music, and vibrant stories that all investigate our current moment. 

Texas-based singer/songwriter Robert Ellis released a new single titled 'Gene.' The song is the latest peak at his forthcoming album Yesterday's News. Like much of the record, 'Gene' is a tranquil rumination on a flawed and broken world, one that acknowledges the ugliness that surrounds us but still insists on finding the beauty.

Coming off his raucous 2019 album Texas Piano Man, Ellis is changing course and embracing a raw minimalist approach that prizes patience and restraint above all else. He also shared the stunning video for the title track “Yesterday’s News,” a wry tune that drifts like a cloud on the breeze as he channels a washed up singer on some dimly lit stage.

The winners have been announced for the 2022 BroadwayWorld Portland Awards, honoring the best in regional productions, touring shows, and more which had their first performance between October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022.
