Esa-Pekka Salonen and The Colburn Orchestra Come to The Soraya Next Month

Composer, conductor, and current Music Director of the San Francisco Symphony, Esa-Pekka Salonen returns to The Soraya’s podium for the third time on Saturday, November 13 at 8pm as he conducts the Colburn Orchestra, the flagship orchestra of the Colburn School’s Conservatory of Music, which has gained international acclaim for producing the next generation of world-class musicians.  

DACAMERA Presents Violinist Christian Tetzlaff In An All-Bach Recital

DACAMERA, a Houston-based presenter of chamber music and jazz concerts, continues its 2021–22 chamber music series with Pure Genius: Solo Bach, a recital by Christian Tetzlaff at Stude Concert Hall, Rice University on Tuesday, November 30 at 7:30 p.m. One of the world's leading violinists, Tetzlaff brings together great proficiency and emotion in an all-Bach concert featuring four of the world-renowned composer's sonatas and paritas. 

New Jersey Symphony Orchestra Names Tong Chen Assistant Conductor

The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra has named Tong Chen its assistant conductor for the 2021–22 season. Chen will make her subscription series debut with performances of Jessie Montgomery's Starburst on a November classical program. She will share the podium with Music Director Xian Zhang for the Orchestra's annual Lunar New Year Celebration in January.

Young Women's Choral Projects Founding Director Susan McMane To Retire

Ahead of its 10th anniversary season, the Young Women's Choral Projects of San Francisco (YWCP) announced today that Founding Director Susan McMane will retire in July 2022. At the end of the forthcoming season, Dr. McMane will conduct her final concerts with the Young Women's Chorus in San Francisco on Wednesday, June 23, 2022, and in Paris on Saturday, July 3, 2022.

Enrique Márquez Named Director of Music at Interlochen Center for the Arts

Interlochen Center for the Arts announced today that Enrique Márquez has been named Director of Music. In this role, Márquez will lead music programming, pedagogy, and curricula at Interlochen Arts Academy, Interlochen Arts Camp, Interlochen Online, and Interlochen College of Creative Arts. Márquez begins his new role June 1.

Giya Kancheli's Collection Of  SIMPLE MUSIC Set For Release April 2

On Friday, April 2, 2021, Steinway & Sons releases SIMPLE MUSIC, a complete recording of the rarely heard book of 33 miniatures from music for stage and screen by Georgia's legendary composer Giya Kancheli, performed and reimagined by two intrepid masters of their instruments: pianist Jenny Lin and accordion virtuoso Guy Klucevsek. 

The New York Philharmonic Will Present Two New Facebook and YouTube Broadcasts

The New York Philharmonic is making available two new broadcasts this week on Facebook and YouTube. This Thursday, May 28 at 7:30 p.m. EDT, the Philharmonic will rebroadcast the 1982 Great Performances episode featuring violinist and Philharmonic Board Member Itzhak Perlman performing the Mendelssohn and Brahms Violin Concertos.

The Wallis Announces Hope @ The Wallis

With the spirit of hope driving forward plans for the future, the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts has established Hope @ The Wallis, which includesthe announcement by Artistic Director Paul Crewes of the appointment of virtuoso violinist and consummate musician Daniel Hope as The Wallis' next Artist-In-Residence in collaboration with the New Century Chamber Orchestra. In addition, a major resiliency campaign and community match/challenge to support The Wallis' performing arts offerings was announced by Rachel Fine, Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer. 

Cellist Lynn Harrell Dies at 76

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that Cellist Lynn Harrell has died at age 76. His wife, violinist Helen Nightengale, announced the news on social media. She did not disclose the cause of his death. His death was 'unexpected' according to a statement provided by Columbia Artists.
