Tap dance choreographer Michelle Dorrance , in her first work for American Ballet Theatre , will create a piece d'occasion for the Company's Spring Gala performance on May 21 , 2018 at the Metropolitan Opera House . It was announced today by ABT Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie . The new Dorrance work is the first of a trio of works by the choreographer , co - commissioned with Vail Dance Festival , for which Dorrance is an artist - in - residence . The piece d'occasion will be followed up in July 2018 with the premiere of a new work for American Ballet Theatre's first appearance at the Vail Dance Festival .
Ephrat "Bounce" Asherie, Artistic Director of Ephrat Asherie Dance, is awarded the inaugural Jacob's Pillow Fellowship at Tilles Center for the Performing Arts at LIU Post. The fellowship includes a $15,000 grant, a one-week residency at Jacob's Pillow's new Pillow Lab, and a residency at LIU Tilles Center. Misty Copeland and Daniil Simkin will lead the opening night cast on December 7 dancing the roles of Clara, the Princess and Nutcracker, the Prince, respectively. Subsequent casts include Sarah Lane and Herman Cornejo, Gillian Murphy and James Whiteside, Stella Abrera and Alexandre Hammoudi, and Hee Seo and Cory Stearns in the leading roles.

The Pillow's 85th Anniversary Festival Finale, on August 26, will be the first event in the brand new space, which marks the first major on-site construction project at the Pillow since 1992. The $5.5 million building was designed by award-winning Flansburgh Architects of Boston, MA and constructed by Allegrone Companies of Pittsfield, MA.
