The Mariinsky (Kirov) Ballet joins the previously-announced Royal Shakespeare Company and The Cleveland Orchestra, completing the trio of leading performing ensembles coming to New York this summer as part of Lincoln Center Festival 2011. Nigel Redden, Festival Director, today announced the complete Festival schedule, which runs from July 5 through August 14. In a co-presentation with the Metropolitan Opera, the renowned Mariinsky (Kirov) Ballet returns to the Festival for eight performances at the Met Opera House, dancing three programs. Highlighting the company's appearance are the U.S. premieres of Anna Karenina and The Little Humpbacked Horse, evening-length ballets by critically-acclaimed choreographer Alexei Ratmansky set to music by leading Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin. A third program pairs Alberto Alonso's Carmen Suite, to Shchedrin's arrangement of Bizet's score, and George Balanchine's neo-classical masterwork Symphony in C, also with music by Bizet. Artistic Director of the Mariinsky, Valery Gergiev will conduct the Mariinsky Orchestra.
On Saturday, February 26th at 2 and 4 pm at Sandglass Theater in Putney, Ines Zeller Bass will perform PUNSCHI, her take on the classic German puppet character Kasper. Zeller Bass performs two hilarious stories with hand puppets under a sun-umbrella. In the first story, 'Kasper and the Cow', the stocking capped hero is joined by his friend, the loveable giant, Augustin, to retrieve his red suitcase stolen by the insatiable cow named Babette. In the second story, 'The Surprise', Kasper finds himself taking an unexpected flight that ends abruptly in his Grandmothers clothesline. This playful inter-active family show is rounded out with an appearance from Tschokolino, a shy clown who lives in a box and only understands German.

'We are the world. We are the boomers'...sing the cast to the tune of 'We Are The Children', and like the new and clever lyrics to this oldie but goodie, 90% of the show indeed boasts some very clever material. Conceived and written by Debbie Kasper and Pat Sierchio, who also direct, Boomermania will appeal most to... baby boomers like me who lived through the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s and have fond memories of growing up with the music and pop culture of that era. Like any parody, it means more to you and you appreciate it, if you lived it! Now on stage @ the Forum Theatre of the El Portal, Boomermania's highly entertaining sketches and cast make it devilishly worthwhile.

Project 891 Theatre Co proudly opens their second season with The Last Night of Ballyhoo by Alfred Uhry in the historic North Lakeside Cultural Center. Set in 1939 Atlanta with the premiere of Gone with the Wind as a backdrop, the Jewish Freitag family is forced to face how they identify with who they are and where they come from when a newcomer from New York enters their lives and illuminates the prejudices within Atlanta's Jewish community. With the circa 1910 North Lakeside Cultural Center mansion as the set, the audience has a unique opportunity to be a fly on the wall of the Freitag living room as the family members go about their lives. The intimacy of the vintage space allows for heightened drama and a sense that the audience has genuinely wandered back in time.
