The Candela Playwrights Summer Fellowship, held at the Dramatists Guild of America in New York City from July 14-19, 2024, graduated eighteen artists who successfully completed this year’s program dedicated to development of playwrights, book writers, and lyricists – all with heritage in Latin America and the Caribbean. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, New York Theatre Barn will present The Musicals de Mañana, a concert featuring songs from some of the most thrilling and influential Latiné musical theatre writers on the rise. The live and in-person concert will be presented at 54 Below (254 W. 54th St., NYC) on Thursday, October 6th, 2022 at 9:30PM. The concert will also be streamed live.

Following the successful opening of Season 10 earlier this month, Los Angeles playwright incubator PlayGround-LA has recently announced the prompt for the next Monday Night PlayGround short play staged reading event. Thirty-six Los Angeles writers had just four-and-a-half days to generate their original scripts inspired by the prompt 'WHODUNNIT' as they vie for one of six slots in the second round of this year's Monday Night PlayGround staged reading series, presented live at The Broadwater Second Stage and simulcast online on November 8th at 7pm PT.

After a date with someone he met online, Fred calls his best friend Billy for a ride home in the middle of the night. Billy reluctantly picks up Fred. As they approach the bridge to cross the bay, their friendship is tested when Billy's resentment collides with Fred's deepest fear.

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra concludes its critically acclaimed CLOSE QUARTERS interdisciplinary digital series melding musical and visual arts with a joyous and optimistic episode featuring Tchaikovsky's enduring masterpiece Serenade for Strings laced with a poignant visual tone poem that reflects the diverse artistic family that LACO built through the series and chronicles Los Angeles' emergence from the global pandemic.

The Robey Theatre Company announced its Community Creatives Developmental Project to support the advancement of original plays by emerging and established African American voices. The Project has commissioned five playwrights to develop five original plays.

Theatre companies from Los Angeles and New York unite to create the Black Wall Street Festival. 2021 marks the centennial of the Black Wall Street Massacre, a two-day event that concluded on June 1, 1921.

The Robey Theatre Company Playwrights Lab, dedicated to new play development and theatre-making, will begin its summer session on May 22 for ten Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Because of the ongoing Covid health crisis, the summer session will be held virtually, via Zoom.
