Last night, Netflix hosted the World Premiere of tick, tick...BOOM! with cast members Andrew Garfield, Alexandra Shipp, Robin de Jesús, Joshua Henry, Judith Light and Vanessa Hudgens, and director Lin-Manuel Miranda. tick, tick…BOOM!, is an adaptation of the musical by Jonathan Larson, who revolutionized theater as the creator of Rent.

Miranda recently chatted with Page Six about the project. 'I was a kid who wanted to be a filmmaker all my life,' Miranda explained. 'I was the kid who found it easier to have a camcorder on my arm than engage with people my age,' he said. 'So when I watched 'Rent' and there's a character who's always spinning a camera, and at one point, another character goes, 'You just film us because you're scared of connecting' ... I went [gestures to looking uncomfortable], in the last row of Nederlander Theatre was Jonathan Larson attacking me and my adolescence.'

The Weinstein Company (TWC) announced today that they have acquired the film rights to writer Paul Tough's (HOW CHILDREN SUCCEED) New York Times Magazine article “A Speck in the Sea.” The piece, which ran as the magazine's cover story last Sunday, will be produced for the screen by Rachael Horovitz (Academy Award® nominated for MONEYBALL and Emmy and Golden Globe Winner for GREY GARDENS) along with Jason Blum and Harvey Weinstein. Bob Weinstein will executive produce the project, with TWC creative executive Julie Oh overseeing development.
