The story of David Henry Hwanga??s play  M. Butterfly, while entwined with that of Puccinia??s opera Madama Butterfly, is basically about the relationship between French diplomat Bernard Boursicot and Shi Pei Pu, a Peking Opera singer. The singer, thought by all who knew her to be female, was actually male. Premiering on Broadway in 1988, the play won that yeara??s Tony Award for Best Play.

The Santa Fe Opera announces Songs from the Santa Fe Opera, a digital performance series celebrating the opening nights of the five originally-scheduled operas that were to comprise the 2020 Summer Festival Season.

Asia Society's inaugural Contemporary Art Triennial of Asia, in partnership with the Santa Fe Opera, kicked off its pre-opening programming on Nov 20, 2019 with a sold-out exclusive world preview of the much anticipated new opera M. Butterfly.

On July 27, 2019, Santa Fe Opera added a new work to the operatic canon with its world premiere of THE THIRTEENTH CHILD by Danish composer Poul Ruders and American librettists Becky and David Starobin. The production was  co-commissioned and co-produced by Santa Fe Opera and the Odense Symphony Orchestra.

The Santa Fe Opera's General Director Robert K. Meya today announced repertory and casting for the company's exciting 64th Season in 2020. On the panel joining Meya for the announcement were the President of the Board of Directors Susan G. The Las Vegas Philharmonic and Music Director Donato Cabrera announced the 2019 2020 concert season today, which will include 11 performances from September 7, 2019 through May 9, 2020 at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts. The orchestra's 21st season offers an exhilarating mix of Masterworks and Pops concerts that celebrate cherished classical works by Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Mozart and Vivaldi in addition to energetic programs including a night of movie music from Danny Elfman and Tim Burton film collaborations, a nod to Opera and Broadway in an all Kurt Weill program plus two distinct holiday concerts including a nostalgic celebration featuring beloved seasonal melodies to an all Baroque program with Handel's Messiah.

The Fix, a new opera by composer Joel Puckett and librettist Eric Simons on, premiered on Saturday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Music Theater at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts. The opera is based on the true story of the "Black Sox" scandal in which the Chicago White Sox were accused of intentionally losing the 1919 World Series. Check out video of the production below!

This past weekend at the Ordway Center, MN Opera unveiled their World Premiere The Fix in tribute to the All-American sport and spirt of baseball. The story created through the company's New Works Initiative by Eric Simonson, who wrote the libretto and also directed the production, was accompanied by composer Joel Puckett. With glowing nostalgia, the 1919 White Sox under Charles Comiskey's ownership and headed by baseball great Shoeless Joe Jackson, sought to 'fix' the 1919 World Series, which disappointed baseball fans across America.

Utah Opera opens its 2018-19 season with Shakespeare's love story of two star-cross'd lovers in Charles Gounod's musical take on the tragic tale, “Romeo and Juliet” The production will be performed five times at the Janet Quinney Lawson Capitol Theatre (50 West 200 South) on October 13 and 19 at 7:30 PM, October 15 and 17 at 7 PM, and October 21 at 2 PM.
