An eagerly anticipated highlight of the Lower Mainland's dance season each July is Canada's longest running contemporary dance festival, Dancing on the Edge. For the 2020 festival This year, during this global pandemic, things will be different, working around the limitations on public gatherings, so the EDGE has adjusted its look and vision in response.

At an online media announcement - pre-taped in front of Meridian Hall with physically distanced protocols in place - streamed June 8 on the Dora Awards YouTube channel, the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) announced 243 nominations for the 41st annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards.

Living legend and 2019 Dance Hall of Fame inductee Louise Lecavalier will open this year's festival with a special artist talk and screening of the recent documentary Louise Lecavalier - In Motion. Additionally, 13 artists and companies will be presented across three Mainstage programs - curated by Matjash Mrozewski, Lina Cruz, and Festival Director Yvonne Ng - coupled with a lottery-based platform titled 'What You See Is What you Get' (WYSIWYG). An ancillary Arts Encounters program explores the photography, media arts, and other creative expressions created by five dance artists.

This week ArtsBridge announced the nominees for the 10th Anniversary Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards - Shuler Hensley Awards. 38 public and private schools from throughout the state were nominated in 17 categories. When Kory Caudill began making plans to record his second album, he knew the focus had to be on one of his strongest passions - his home state of Kentucky and specifically the area surrounding his Prestonsburg roots. The aptly titled Song for Appalachia EP features six songs old and new and was produced by Sean Truskowski and Caudill.

Now in its 23rd season, Dusk Dances will return to Withrow Park from August 7 to 13th, with five original dance works created by some of Canada's leading choreographers: Gadfly'sOfilio Sinbadinho, Rhodnie De?sir, Sashar Zarif, Company 605's Dana Gingras, and BoucharDanse's Sylvie Bouchard. Performers include: Zhenya Cerneacov, Sebastian Hirtenstein, Molly Johnson, Kathleen Legassick, Meredith Thompson, Rhodnie De?sir, Luke Garwood, Corrado Cerruto, Mateo Galindo Torres, Sashar Zarif, Amber Funk-Barton, Lisa Gelley, Josh Martin, Nicholas Peter Lydiate and Brendan Wyatt.
