Bernard Pomerance’s Tony-winning play The Elephant Man is coming to the screen in a new film adaptation starring Adam Pearson. The movie, which is scheduled to begin filming in Spring of 2026, has been written by Bernard Pomerance’s son, Moby Pomerance.

Marc Lucchesi, Sarah Nandagopan and Jayan Nandagopan (joint Writers and Composers) new work THE MARVELLOUS ELEPHANT MAN THE MUSICAL arrives in Sydney as part of its current tour of the Fringe Festival Circuit. An absurd mashup of the Victorian era medical mystery and the tradition of the Penny Dreadful horror stories, this work draws artistic influence from vaudeville, cabaret, burlesque and slapstick humor but don’t expect much connection to Joseph Merrick’s real story.

Nottingham Playhouse has announced its autumn 2023 season, which includes the European premiere of an acclaimed new play, the return of a popular seasonal classic, more summer Shakespeare outdoors and, of course, the legendary Nottingham Playhouse pantomime.

The opening night had a full house, and closed to a standing ovation.

Bernard Pomerance’s The Elephant Man, premiered at the Hampstead Theatre in London in November of 1977. Pomerance’s play also transferred to the National Theatre in London for an “In Rep” residency. From January to March of 1979 it played off-Broadway, and made a transfer to the Booth Theatre on Broadway later in 1979, but the production closed in 1981 after 916 regular performances. The Elephant Man received revivals in 2002 and 2014.

This production is especially poignant as it was a conversation between the late beloved C. David Frankel, co-founder and artistic director of TampaRep, and Paul Potenza that set the show in motion.

Bradley Cooper has confirmed that his upcoming Leonard Bernstein biopic, Maestro, is set to begin filming in May. Cooper will direct and star in the upcoming film, also featuring Carey Mulligan as Felicia Montealegre, Bernstein's wife. Bernstein has conducted works such as West Side Story, Peter Pan, Candide, Wonderful Town, On the Town, and more.

Inspired by the success from their safe drive-in performances of La bohème in the Fall, which heralded the return of live, in-person, opera to San Diego County since the start of the pandemic, and provided over 300 jobs to many, San Diego Opera has announced a Spring season of safe, socially-distanced, drive-in performances.

Today we rewind to 2014, when The Elephant Man was getting ready to return to Broadway at the Booth Theatre, where it played for 83 performances. Directed by Scott Ellis, it starred Bradley Cooper, Patricia Clarkson, Alessandro Nivola, and more.

Hampstead Theatre has announced the cast and creative team for Tennessee Williams' innovative, and partly autobiographical work, The Two Character Play. Acclaimed stage and screen actors, David Dawson and Lyndsey Marshal, will perform in this unique two-hander which Williams called 'My most beautiful play since Streetcar, the very heart of my life'. The production, directed by award-winning theatre and film artist, Sam Yates, will run from 24 April until 23 May 2020.

A Public Fit Theatre Company is presenting the Tony-award winning production by Bernard Pomerance starring Kurt Hellerigh as Merrick at The Usual Place May 3-26.
