The Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center is delighted to announce that casting is now complete for Wonderland: Alice's New Musical Adventure. Slated to have its world premiere in Tampa on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009 in TBPAC's Ferguson Hall, with Gregory Boyd, artistic director of Houston's Alley Theatre, directing. The music for Wonderland is from composer Frank Wildhorn (The Civil War and Jekyll & Hyde) with lyrics by Jack Murphy (The Civil War) and a book by Murphy and Boyd. Wonderland is the first initiative of the Broadway Genesis Project at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. Broadway Genesis is intended to help create new works of American theater to play the Tampa market, and then possibly tour other performing arts centers or move to Broadway.

The concept recording of the upcoming production, Wonderland: Alice's New Musical Adventure, is now available. The first project of the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center's Broadway Genesis Project, Wonderland features a score by Frank Wildhorn (Jekyll & Hyde, The Scarlett Pimpernel, The Civil War), lyrics by Jack Murphy (The Civil War) and a book by Murphy and Gregory Boyd. Boyd, the artistic director of the Alley Theatre in Houston, Texas, directs the production.

The Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center will present the World Premiere of Wonderland: Alice's New Musical Adventure. The production will debut in Tampa on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009 in TBPAC's Ferguson Hall, the music for Wonderland is by Frank Wildhorn, the composer of The Civil War and Jekyll & Hyde, with book and lyrics by Jack Murphy. ‘Getting to Know You: Rodgers & Asia' - a symposium exploring the successes and controversies in Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals -- 'The King and I,' 'South Pacific,' and 'Flower Drum Song,' will be presented October 5 at David Henry Hwang Theater. The event will include musical performances by Jose Llana and Jennifer Paz. The symposium, presented by Reprise Theatre Company in association with East West Players, will be moderated by playwright David Henry Hwang. The gender-reversed benefit concert extravaganza is always one of the Center's most anticipated events of the year, and on Monday, February 9, 2009, Broadway Backwards returned to Broadway's American Airlines Theatre. BroadwayWorld's cameras were everywhere to capture all the gender-bending fun!

Broadway Backwards is a star-studded event featuring songs that even those not familiar with Broadway know and love, with a very unique and memorable twist. Instead of seeing a woman sing the iconic 'As Long As He Needs Me' from Oliver!, if that song were to be featured in Broadway Backwards, you might see someone like Alan Cumming sing it! The event was a benefit for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center of Manhattan.
