Miller Theatre at Columbia University School of the Arts Announces The Fall Season Of POP-UP CONCERTS

Whether it is one's first visit to Miller Theatre or fiftieth, the free and fun Pop-Up Concerts provide the perfect opportunity to get up close and personal with today's most exciting new music. Sit onstage and enjoy a free drink during these hour-long weeknight concerts, and mingle with the musicians and fellow concertgoers after the show. Onstage seating is first-come, first-served. All concerts start at 6 p.m. and doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 10.

New York Youth Symphony Announces Its 57th Season Of Concerts And Venues

New York Youth Symphony (NYYS), is proud to continue its mission of educating and inspiring young musicians through its Orchestra, Jazz, Chamber Music, Composition, Musical Theater Composition, Apprenticeship Conducting, and First Music commissioning programs. This season includes seven world premieres of new works commissioned through the First Music program, composed for the Orchestra, Jazz, and Chamber Music ensembles. The season also features renowned and up-and-coming soloists including prodigy pianist Harmony Zhu, 2019 Sphinx Competition winner cellist Sterling Elliott, and leading young pianist Michelle Cann in the Carnegie Hall premiere of Florence Price's recently re-discovered Piano Concerto in One Movement with NYYS Orchestra, as well as in-demand drummer Matt Wilson, celebrated saxophonist Steve Wilson, and trombone virtuoso Wycliffe Gordon with NYYS Jazz. Five Boroughs Music Festival (5BMF) announces programming for its 13th season in 2019-2020, continuing its mission of bringing affordable, world-class performances of traditional and contemporary chamber music to all five boroughs of New York City. The upcoming slate of concerts feature the Longleash Trio, Founders, Ars Longa de la Habana, Parthenia, LeStrange Viols, and Alkemie with Elliot Cole, as well as partnerships with Music on Madison, Gotham Early Music/Americas Society (GEMAS) and the Baryshnikov Arts Center.

International Contemporary Ensemble Announces New ICEcommons Composer Residency

The International Contemporary Ensemble announces six composers chosen to be the first ICEcommons Artists-in-Residence: Helga Arias, Kate Gentile, Murat olak, Ylva Lund Bergner, Fernanda Navarro, and Bergr n Sn bj rnsd ttir. Represented by a diversity of backgrounds and musical styles, the cohort was selected by a panel of ICE musicians and outside experts who, over the course of six weeks, became familiar with more than 700 composers who submitted their creative work for consideration via a new call for scores on the ICEcommons web portal.

"There's probably no frame wide enough to encompass the creative output of the pianist Vijay Iyer," The New York Times observed. His Ph.D. in cognitive science from UC Berkeley is just the start. He's been recognized as a bona fide "genius" by DownBeat magazine and was named by GQ India as one of the 50 most influential Indians. The jazz pianist is also a prolific recording artist and his quintet will play the final Jazz Club performances of The Soraya's 2018/19 season on May 10 and 11.

Acclaimed Pianist Winston Choi Joins New Philharmonic For Saint-Saëns' Piano Concerto No. 2

Acclaimed pianist Winston Choi returns to the McAninch Arts Center  (MAC) for two concerts with New Philharmonic under the baton of Maestro Kirk Muspratt, Saturday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 14 at 3 p.m. The program will include Charles-Camille Saint-Saens' Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor, featuring Choi, and Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2 in E minor, Op. 27. The program will open with New Philharmonic sharing the stage with members from the Glenbard West High School Honors Symphony Orchestra for a side by side performance of the third movement of George Bizet's "Allegro Vivace," conducted by New Philharmonic Associate Conductor Ben Nadel. A free MAC Chat will take place one hour prior to each performance.
