The 17th annual edition of the only festival of its kind to showcase the theatrical work of contemporary Irish playwrights takes place from April 1 to April 28 in three boroughs.

​​​​​​​ Origin 1st Irish 2025, the only festival of its kind devoted to producing and presenting the theatrical work of contemporary Irish playwrights from around the world, will take place this year from April 1 to April 28 in New York.

After 87 performances across the globe, award-winning Irish playwright and performer David Gilna will present his final staging of the critically acclaimed one-man show, A Bolt From D'Blue, on Wednesday, October 9th, at Dublin's Lark Concert Hall.

Originally scheduled to run from Sun Jan 9 to Mon Jan 31, the hybrid virtual and in-person Festival was extended by several days to accommodate the world premiere of John Kearns’ “Boann and the Well of Wisdom,” which was forced to reschedule its run at Ryan’s Daughter due to COVID-related developments.

The still uninterrogated crimes of some members of the Catholic Church in Ireland is a constant source of pain and betrayal to many citizens. The absence of an unambiguous confession and apology from the hierarchy is a further source of hurt. What would that even look like? Although from time to time the issues roar loudly in our faces, they are still mostly swept aside by a power structure whose inner workings, practices and real attitudes we can never know. But we can imagine.
