BWW Review: PRIVATE LIVES Offers a Taste of Throwback Theatre at Dorset Theatre Festival

Despite the valiant efforts of the cast, a strikingly handsome set, and beautiful costumes, PRIVATE LIVES will not be (pardon the pun) everyone's cup of tea. The material is dated and generally appeals most to an older audience segment and those who long for the days of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers (not that there is anything wrong with that). To be clear and fair, many audience members at the charming Dorset Playhouse where this production of PRIVATE LIVES continues through July 6th enjoyed the presentation thoroughly.

Boston Lyric Opera Announces Spring 2019 Season - THE HANDMAID'S TALE, LUCRETIA, and More!

Boston Lyric Opera's (BLO) season of rebels and dissenters continues into Spring 2019 with tales of strong women helmed by women directors. BLO's productions of THE RAPE OF LUCRETIA and THE HANDMAID'S TALE tell startlingly relevant stories -- both with extraordinary music, and both produced in distinctive, non-traditional spaces. Artistic and General Director Esther Nelson says the spring season highlights stories from which female characters emerge as moral and societal touchstones.

Heartbeat Opera Announces Radically Staged Versions Of Two Classics: DON GIOVANNI And FIDELIO

After last season's much-buzzed-about Butterfly and Carmen, HEARTBEAT OPERA-the daring young company whose unconventional orchestrations and stagings of classic operas have been called 'a radical endeavor' by Alex Ross in The New Yorker-returns to Baruch Performing Arts Center with its fourth annual Spring Festival May 2-13, 2018. Heartbeat will premiere adaptations of two operatic masterpieces, both radically staged, trimmed down and re-orchestrated: Mozart's DON GIOVANNI and Beethoven's FIDELIO.

VIETGONE Comes to Arkansas March 18

The irreverent new comedy and recent off-Broadway hit Vietgonewill begin performances at TheatreSquared on March 14. Set in 1975 after the Fall of Saigon, this New York Times Critics' Pick is a stranger-than-fiction true love story between two refugees-who find each other on the other side of the world. Qui Nguyen, a playwright and screenwriter for Marvel Studios, deploys hip-hop, fight sequences, and up-to-the-minute pop culture references to tell his own origin story as his parents "meet cute" in the repurposed barracks of a relocation camp in Fort Chaffee, Arkansas.

BWW Review: Hearts Ablaze in Harrison David Rivers' ONLY YOU CAN PREVENT WILDFIRES

Written by Harrison David Rivers, conceived/directed by Sherri Eden Barber and presented by Ricochet Collective, Only You Can Prevent Wildfires celebrates its World Premiere by bringing the true story of forest technician Terry Lynn Barton and the Hayman Fire of 2002 to audiences in a rather unprecedented way. In what is both as surreal as the imagination running rampant beneath a star-infested sky and as visceral as the cold truth (and consequences) of human emotions, Wildfires depicts the reasoning behind a distraught woman's actions in an incredibly graspable manner.

ONLY YOU CAN PREVENT WILDFIRES Begins Tonight at Teatro Circulo

Ricochet Collective presents the World Premiere of Harrison David Rivers' ONLY YOU CAN PREVENT WILDFIRES, co-conceived and directed by Sherri Eden Barber, at Teatro Circulo (64 East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue and Bowery), tonight, October 7, through October 28.

BWW Review: ONCE ON THIS ISLAND Wows Audiences at Le Petit

Alright y'all, here's the deal. Once in a while I have tickets to a show that I've only vaguely heard of before much less know what it's about. Sometimes I walk out of the theatre shaking my head, but then there's times I walk out of the theatre thinking, 'Ok, why have I never seen this before? Everyone needs to know about this!' ONCE ON THIS ISLAND at Le Petit Theatre prompted that second reaction out of me.
