Twi McCallum Reveals Anniversary Article of Open Letter to the Theatre Community on Hiring Black Designers and Creatives

Last year, Sound designer Twi McCallum wrote a 'letter to the industry', expressing the 'grief from a designer's perspective of how we are often not included in this 'diversity' platform, as it is often limited to Black actors, writers, directors, and producers.' Today Twi has released an article to mark the first anniversary of that open letter. 

52nd Annual Equity Jeff Awards Nominations Announced

The Jeff Awards has announced the nominees for the 52nd annual awards for theater excellence that include 142 theater artists across 30 artistic and technical categories. The awards will be presented in an online program on Monday, November 9, 2020 at 7:00PM.

The world premiere of HATEF**K, the 2017 Kilroys List play by Rehana Lew Mirza, opens tomorrow, Wednesday, March 13, at WP Theater (2162 Broadway) in partnership with Colt Coeur. Directed by Adrienne Campbell-Holt (WP's What We're Up Against), this bracingly insightful play stars Kavi Ladnier ("Just Add Magic", "Heroes") and Sendhil Ramamurthy ("Heroes", "Covert Affairs"). In HOW TO CATCH CREATION, a world premiere at Goodman Theatre, playwright Christina Anderson tackles universal themes: the desire for human connection, the pursuit of creative and intellectual passions, and the longing to leave a meaningful legacy. Niegel Smith directs this intricately crafted tale, which spans five decades and follows six Black American artists whose paths intersect in surprising ways.

HOW TO CATCH CREATION Opens Tonight At Goodman Theatre

I'm preparing. I'm expecting. I haven't figured out the path to creation yet. Christina Anderson's bold, imaginative portrait of three artist/intellectual couples exploring personal and professional legacy, How to Catch Creation makes its world premiere at Goodman Theatre. A playwright of note for more than a decade, with previous works at The Public Theater, Yale Repertory Theatre and Playwrights Horizons, Anderson makes her Goodman debut. Niegel Smith, who most recently directed the smash sensation Father Comes Home from the Wars (Parts 1, 2 & 3) last season at the Goodman, directs Anderson's play, which appeared as a reading in the Goodman's 2017 New Stages Festival.

THE WOLVES, SWEENEY TODD Win Top Awards at 2019 Midwinter's First Night

Actors Bridge Ensemble's critically acclaimed production of Sarah DeLappe's The Wolves and Cumberland County Playhouse's stunning mounting of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street were named as the top shows of the year during Midwinter's First Night, the annual tribute to theater in Tennessee, held at Nashville's The Larry Keeton Theatre Sunday night, January 13.
