by Michael Dale - Jan 9, 2018

That old adage that if men got pregnant, abortion and reproductive health would be fully funded by the federal government gets quite a workout in playwright/director Robert O'Hara's wild gender politics satire MANKIND.

BWW Review: Learn to See 'The Beauty Underneath' in LOVE NEVER DIES at the Benedum
by Dylan Shaffer - Jan 4, 2018

Ten years after the epic conclusion of The Phantom of the Opera, we find ourselves on the shores of the Atlantic- an ocean away from the Paris Opera House where years prior Christine, Raoul, and the Phantom would meet for an explosive encounter in the lair. Christine and Raoul would flee together, leaving the Phantom to the mercy of the encroaching mob. It is the most recognizable love triangle in musical theatre- one that ends in the questionable disappearance of the Phantom. But Andrew Lloyd Weber could not let the Phantom's love and story end there; thus gives us the basis for the sequel Love Never Dies.

BWW Review: THE ILLUSIONISTS - LIVE FROM BROADWAY Returns to the Kennedy Center
by Roger Catlin - Dec 31, 2017

Individually, they might amuse the captive audience of a cruise ship. But combining five magicians in one show under the name The Illusionists has proven to be a popular attraction worldwide ever since it was first devised in Australia nearly six years ago. With its revolving casts of not quite household names in magic, the show gained a whole new cachet (ad name) when it briefly appeared on Broadway two years ago.

BWW Review: Despite Outstanding Talent, LOVE NEVER DIES Proves Merely a Ghost of Lloyd Webber's PHANTOM
by Veronica Bruscini - Dec 27, 2017

On paper, LOVE NEVER DIES should have everything going for it. With PHANTOM'S bedrock story and unforgettable music as its foundation, this tour adds to its credit a truly phenomenal cast, top-notch stagecraft and costuming, and Lloyd Webber's fine new score. Yet even these strengths fail to keep LOVE NEVER DIES from buckling under the weight of a deeply flawed narrative.

Photo Flash: First Look at Playwrights Horizons World Premiere of Robert O'Hara's MANKIND
by Julie Musbach - Dec 27, 2017

Mark (Mr. Mount) and Jason (Mr. Moreno) were keeping things casual until Jason got pregnant. But however unplanned the pregnancy was, nothing could be less expected than the chain of events it would set in motion. Robert O'Hara's audacious, hilarious allegory envisions an uncannily familiar future one long after women have gone extinct from centuries of mistreatment where man's capacity to f**k everything up soars to new heights.

It's no surprise I love a musical about pie, but its recipe is what makes Waitress so delectable.
