Longtime Downtown Theater Director George Ferencz Passes Away at 74

Stage Director George Ferencz (1947-2021), passed away on September 14 following a long illness according to his wife of 35 years, Sally Lesser. For over a half century, Ferencz was a beloved fixture of New York’s Off- and Off-Off-Broadway theatre scenes.

Bill Army, Arnie Burton, Veanne Cox and More to Star in Benefit Reading of THE WOMAN HATER

RED BULL THEATER today announced that its 2020-21 offerings will continue with a special event benefit reading of Frances Burney’s The Woman Hater, directed by Everett Quinton. The reading will  feature Bill Army, Arnie Burton, Veanne Cox, Rebecca S'Manga Frank, Cherie Corinne Rice, Matthew Saldivar, Jenne Vath, and Nick Westrate.

Theater for the New City to Present Fourth Installment of OPEN 'THO SHUT

 On Saturday, December 5 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Theater for the New City (TNC), 155 First Ave., will present the fourth installment of 'Open 'Tho Shut,' its afternoon of 'walk-by theater' that is staged in its set shop and visible from East Tenth Street between First and Second Avenues.

On Saturday, November 14 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM, Theater for the New City (TNC), 155 First Ave., will inaugurate 'Open 'Tho Shut,' a weekly series of free, live walk-by performances in which acts will be staged live in the theater's set shop for audiences of socially distanced passers-by, who will watch through an open garage door.

The third installment of Toast The Vote!, the series sponsored by the CT Chapter of the League of Professional Theatre Women to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote, will take place on Zoom Sept. 23 at 5 pm Eastern with an excerpt from Susan B. by Toby Armour, featuring Jenne Vath as Susan B. PIE LESSONS By Carrie Robbins To Have World Premiere At FringeNYC

Broadway costume designer turned playwright, Carrie Robbins, will present the world premiere of her latest work, PIE LESSONS, with her production company Days of the Giants, Oct. 25-Nov. 3 as part of THE N.Y. INTERNATIONAL FRINGE FESTIVAL at Metropolitan Playhouse (220A East 4th Street) in Manhattan. PIE LESSONS, directed by Jonathan Cerullo, debuts this fall having previously received a staged-reading last spring at Theater for the New City as part of Crystal Field, Exec. Artistic Director's Scratch Night. Pie will be served!

Theatre at St. John's, in association with Yorick Theater Company, presents the first ever revival of Charles Ludlam's GALAS, starring and directed by Everett Quinton in celebration of Stonewall 50 and World Pride. GALAS opens on Sunday, June 16th and will play a limited engagement through June 28th at the Theatre at St. John's (81 Christopher Street), a stone's throw from Stonewall and the play's original home, Ridiculous Theatrical Company. In this grand finale of a series saluting Quinton's artistry, opera diva extraordinaire Maria Magdalena Galas (rhymes with Callas) once again storms into the West Village with style, flair, and a whole lot of high comedy.
