Known for her debut as Joelle in the original Broadway cast of Groundhog Day and now playing the lead role of Mary in Broadway’s Jesus Christ Superstar, Jenna Rubaii is nothing short of exceptional. The American Theatre Guild is pleased to present the Kansas City engagement of the critically acclaimed musical JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. This production is part of the BROADWAY IS BACK IN KANSAS CITY SERIES and will take the Kauffman Center stage March 29 – April 3, 2022.

You know how many people in the performing arts think of themselves as Christlike or just consider themselves GOD? Today's subject Aaron LaVigne can actually get away with it because he is currently living his theatre life on tour playing the world's most famous carpenter Jesus in the North American Tour of Jesus Christ Superstar. The production runs through March thirteenth in the Opera House at Kennedy Center.

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR landed at the Providence Performing Arts Center this week as part of its 50th anniversary tour, and the show does not disappoint. Originally scheduled to visit Providence in 2020, the tour was cut short and delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic, however, its return was triumphant and well worth the wait. The familiar tale, set against the final weeks of the life of Jesus Christ and told through the eyes of Judas, features some modern design embellishments that succeed in updating the look of the show without altering the outstanding original score by Andrew Lloyd Webber, all while allowing the actors’ performances to shine.

The 1970's rock opera JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR celebrated its 50th anniversary this year and the anniversary tour is currently at Clowes Memorial Hall in Indianapolis. This iconic musical has always been one of our favorites, and we've have lost count of how many times we've seen it. This touring production exceeded every one of our very high expectations. While it remained true to the original version, some contemporary tweaks brought it to a new level of greatness.

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is coming soon to Indianapolis, and we had the good fortune to talk to Jenna Rubaii, who plays Mary Magdalene in the latest Broadway touring production. She offered us keen insights into what makes this production different and gave us a glimpse behind the curtain to learn more about how the magic we see is created by the cast.

Tyrone Huntley, who caused a sensation in the original 2016 production of Jesus Christ Superstar at London’s Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, will reprise his role as Judas in the North American touring production of the musical, beginning tonight.

Following critically acclaimed, sold-out engagements in the UK, the reimagined 50th Anniversary tour of Jesus Christ Superstar will come to Salt Lake City from May 10 to May 15, 2022. The 2017 Olivier awarding-winning production from Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre went on sale to the general public on Friday, November 12, 2021.

Far more concerned with style over (narrative) substance, this brand new '50th Anniversary' re-staging of the 1971 musical that recounts the final days leading up to the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ is undeniably entertaining. The palpable, intentional vibe of this new US National Tour---directly imported from the well-received 2016 Regent's Park Theatre London production helmed by director Timothy Sheader that won the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival---is to emphasize the show as a series of high-decibel, highly-stylized Big Musical Production Numbers where the 'story' acts as merely a way to organize the songs in a linear order. Overall, it's a fascinating hybrid of a rock opera arena concert, a Sunday morning modern-hipster MegaChurch service, and some, I suppose, after-thought musical theater-izing that mesmerizes the audience not with its central story but with high-budget music video production values, beautiful modern choreography, and bombastic vocal stylings from an extremely talented cast.
