The thing about FAR EAST is the emotional stakes are never high. Unlike MADAME BUTTERFLY where we are faced with a scorned woman and an illegitimate child, here we never see the soldier’s Japanese lover. And contrasted with FROM HERE TO ETERNITY where an affair is consummated on a wildly active beach, the soldier and his captain’s wife merely brush against each other almost politely rather than passionately.

On the Verge Theatre has announced the cast for Far East, playing August 4 – May 28, 2023 at the Alta Arts.

It’s a tale not told often enough about a Jewish woman who helped to decode the building blocks of life itself. It is even more poignant when we look across the scientific field and see how women are still marginalized and not given the same voices that men often take.

BWW Review: With An Excellent Cast And A Great Script, WHO AM I THIS TIME? (& Other Conundrums of Love) Hits All the Right Notes

The first in Stages Repertory Theatre's 2017 Get Talking Series that highlights important voices in contemporary theatre - Who Am I This Time (& Other Conundrums of Love) by Aaron Posner and adapted from stories by Kurt Vonnegut, makes its regional premiere in Houston on January 25 and runs through February 12. Directed by long-time Stages and Houston actor and director Sally Edmundson (Driving Miss Daisy, Auntie Mame, Amy's View), Who Am I This Time takes a good-natured look at love and the conundrums that accompany it through the interconnected stories of three couples, all set against the backdrop of North Crawford Mask & Wig Club - 'the finest community theatre in central Connecticut.' The play's New England everyman narrator and the poignant, often comic look at daily life and relationships are gently reminiscent of Thornton Wilder's classic Our Town.

Absurdities abound in 2016, so this fall Horse Head invites you to blow off some steam, knock back a few and tell us what you really think.

Described as an 'urban biblical fairy tale,' GAMBRELS OF THE SKY, the Landing Theatre Company's current production, catches us up with Eve (I did say biblical, didn't I?), six thousand years removed from the garden. She now works in a high-rise, specializing in office-based hedonism, with Rose, the second, and September, a former accountant who went looking for trouble and found it.

A brave cast, a spot on director, and amazing technical direction just can't make STRAIGHT WHITE MEN appealing.

Sit back and simply enjoy the spectacle of the ladies discovering their sex while the men recoil in horror and sing songs about 'hair in the air', and then pretend it all made sense when you wake up in the morning. It's nonsense, both a trick and a treat for Halloween.
