The Broadway-bound musical, directed by Tony nominee Rachel Chavkin, with music by Matt Gould and book and lyrics by Carson Kreitzer, starred Eden Espinosa, Amber Iman, Nicholas Belton, Jon Jon Briones, T. Oliver Reid, Darlesia Cearcy, Natalie Joy Johnson, and Kendyl Ito.

RAGTIME is such an underrated piece of art. Although written in 1996 and staged for Broadway in 1998, it is almost prophetic in its reflection of the social unrest, racism and immigration sanctions prevalent in our world today. Based on the 1975 novel by E. L. Doctorow, with a book by Terrence McNally, music by Stephen Flaherty and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, RAGTIME is as relevant today as it was when first conceived. Its timelessness is a credit to its brilliant and perceptive writing, albeit a sad commentary of our present society which has not learned from its past and has not progressed much in civility or compassion.

Due to an overwhelming demand, Berkeley Rep has announced that the world premiere musical of Ain't Too Proud-The Life and Times of The Temptations will extend for two additional weeks. Originally scheduled to close on October 8, the popular musical will now run through Sunday, October 22.
Berkeley Repertory Theatre today announced the full casting and creative team for the world premiere of AIN'T TOO PROUD-THE TEMPTATIONS MUSICAL. Performing the Music of the great Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller, the band will be jumpin' and the joint will begin to swing until everyone in the historic barn theatre is singin' and dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock! As the first large-scale musical production of the 2017 Mainstage Series, Smokey Joe's Cafe will run on the Mainstage in the Village of Flat Rock from April 21st through May 13th, featuring a cast of nine spectacular performers and a rockin' band of six musicians who will bring down the house with this musical masterpiece.
