Photo Flash: First Look at THE BOYFRIEND at Menier Chocolate Factory

Sandy Wilson's all-singing all-dancing love letter to 1920s musical comedies returns for the first major London revival in over 10 years. Set in Madame Dubonnet's finishing school in the south of France, these perfect young ladies burst into song at the least provocation, and forbidden boy friends are forever popping through the French windows to sing and dance with them. Since its premiere in 1953, this light-hearted soufflé of a show has delighted audiences worldwide and has become one of the most well-loved British musicals of all time.

BWW Review: THE BOY FRIEND, Menier Chocolate Factory

How ripping! A saucy French maid doing the Charleston with a handsome chap in tennis whites sets the scene for the most delightful escapism in town: Matthew White's gossamer-light revival of Sandy Wilson's 1953 love letter to the Roaring Twenties. It was once the third-longest-running stage musical, and boosted Julie Andrews' career on Broadway.

BWW Interview: Janie Dee and Moronke Akinola Talk THE NICETIES at Finborough Theatre

Janie Dee and Moronke Akinola can currently be seen in The Niceties at the Finborough Theatre, which centres on the conflict between a university history professor and her student - a conflict that spreads from the academic to the personal. BroadwayWorld spoke with both actors about Eleanor Burgess's play, and what they want audiences to take away from seeing the show.

BWW Review: THE NICETIES, Finborough Theatre

Hailed by The New York Times as a?oebristlinga?? and a?oeprovocativea?? during its Off-Broadway run, Eleanor Burgess's abrasive The Niceties is exactly that. Janie Dee and Moronke Akinola take on the roles of history professor Janine and Zoe, her passionate student. During a meeting to review the latter's thesis, their conversation about trivial grammatical mistakes in the writing escalates to a complicated discussion on race. Matthew Iliffe directs the debate play, revealing systemic internalised racism and the ugly truth of standing on the middle ground.
