THE MOVING MEMORY PROJECT Festival, Featuring Stefanie Nelson Dancegroup's A, MY NAME IS…

Co-curators: choreographer Stefanie Nelson of Stefanie Nelson Dancegroup and bestselling author David Shenk (The Forgetting) present the launch of a new festival devoted to memory and forgetting. The inaugural event will feature Stefanie Nelson's A, MY NAME IS…, a dance piece inspired by a family experience with dementia, using several short films from David Shenk's Living With Alzheimer's Film Project. It will take place on January 23, 2019, at Aaron Davis Hall at The City College of New York (129 Convent Avenue at West 135th Street), with performances at 11:00 am and 6:30 pm. Both shows will be followed by a discussion with invited panelists including Meredith Wong from CaringKind's Connect2Culture program, and a reception (evening show only). NYCO & NYTF To Produce World Premiere Of DEAR ERICH

New York City Opera has announced that it will produce the world premiere of the award-winning jazz composer/pianist Ted Rosenthal's DEAR ERICH.  This new jazz opera, to be co-produced with the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, will open Wednesday, January 9 and will play four performances only through Sunday, January 13 at the Edmond J. Safra Hall at 36 Battery Place, in lower Manhattan.

This Music We Call Jazz: The Latin Connection Exhibit Comes To NJPAC

SCFTA Presents Kenny Barron Quintet At Samueli Theater

Segerstrom Center for the Arts presents the Kenny Barron Quintet for two performances on November 3, 2018 at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Named a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master, the Los Angeles Times calls Barron "one of the top jazz pianists in the world" and Jazz Weekly calls him "The most lyrical piano player of our time." For his return to the Center's Jazz Series, Barron brings his quintet, which includes Mike Rodriguez, trumpet; Dayna Stephens, tenor saxophone; Kiyoshi Kitagawa, bass; and Jonathan Blake, drums.

Django Festival All-Stars Presents Special Guest Edmar Castañeda

New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) presents the Django Festival All-Stars who have ushered the music of legendary Gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt into the 21st century, revitalizing Reinhardt's driving, swinging style (often referred to as "hot jazz"). The group's repertoire combines unique interpretations of Reinhardt classics with original compositions. Praised by critics at the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Kennedy Center, and NYC's famed Birdland, the Django Festival All-Stars were recently classified by The Wall Street Journal as "the best jazz show in town." The group includes of one of Europe's greatest musical families - guitarist-violinist Dorado Schmitt and his two sons, Samson and Amati - along with violinist Pierre Blanchard and accordionist Ludovic Beier.

Sandoval, in addition to trumpet, played flugelhorn, keyboards, and timbales, with a few vocals and a lot of clowning around thrown in.
