Peri Mauer's new piece for contrabass flute and cello, Shadow Harlequinade, will be premiered this weekendin the Bargemusic Here and Now Labor Day Festival. The concerts will take place today, August 31 at 8pm,Saturday, September 1 at 6pm, and Sunday, September 2 at 4pm. It will be performed by flutist Lish Lindseyand cellist Timothy Leonard.
Bahia Ramos has been selected as The Wallace Foundation's new Director of Arts, the foundation announced today. Ramos, who will oversee one of the foundation's key grantmaking areas, will join Wallace on September 6, 2018. She succeeds Daniel Windham, who is retiring at the end of September.
In an unique collaboration a special kid friendly tour of the Palace Theater is being offered on Wednesday August 15 at 11:00 am. Friends of the Drexel today announced that Jeremy Henthorn has been selected as theatre director of the Drexel Theatre. Currently executive director of the Columbus International Film and Animation Festival at the Columbus College of Art and Design and a resident of Bexley, Henthorn holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts, ranked No. 1 on The Hollywood Reporter's list of Top 25 Film Schools for five years straight (2013-17). He will begin his new role with the Drexel on Monday, July 16, 2018.

Board of Trustees today namedJennifer Bielstein the new executive director of San Francisco's premier nonprofit theater organization. Bielstein succeeds Peter Pastreich who will depart from American Conservatory Theater at the end of the 2017-18 season.
The Educational Theatre Association (EdTA) recognizes schools whose theatre programs exemplify and promote high standards of quality in educational theatre. This year only three schools in the nation were honored: Arbor View High School in Las Vegas, Nevada; Lakewood High School in Lakewood, Colorado; and Papillion La-Vista High School in Papillion, Nebraska.

Milwaukee Repertory Theater presents the World Premiere production of Lost Girl by Kimberly Belflower performed by the 2017/18 Professional Training Institute (PTI) ensemble this July 19-22, 2018 in the Stiemke Studio. PTI is an advanced actor-training program for students in 8th-12th grade who may have an interest in pursuing a career as a professional theater artist. The 2017/18 PTI ensemble features sixteen students hailing from fourteen different high schools who received free training from some of the top theater professionals in the world, culminating in this capstone performance of Lost Girl where they will be employed as paid, professional actors.

Veteran theatre educators and EdTA members Kelly Carlson, Philip Lee 'Peelee' Clark, and Carolyn Little will each receive this award at EdTA's National Conference.

Under the direction of National Philharmonic Concertmaster Colin Sorgi, the National Philharmonic Chamber Players perform the works of Schubert and Mendelssohn on April 22 at 3pm at the John Kendall Recital Hall, Potter Violins in Takoma Park, MD. Entitled "Next Generation," the concert showcases gifted students from the Philharmonic's Summer String Institutes performing the Mendelssohn Octet in E-flat Major alongside members of the Philharmonic Chamber Players. The concert also features Schubert's String Quartet in C Major. Potter's intimate hall seats only 90, allowing concert goers to experience chamber music as it was originally intended, up close and personal. Thespian Troupe 4879 of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. was honored recently at the closing ceremonies of the Florida Thespian Festival in Tampa, with the Spirit of Thespis Award from the International Thespian Society. Melody Herzfeld, the theatre teacher and troupe director, accepted the award. Troupe 4879 has 81 members, 40 of whom participated in the Florida event.
Seven members have been selected for the second class of the Advocacy Leadership Network (ALN), a three-year pilot initiative designed to train and empower members of the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA) in grassroots advocacy efforts on behalf of theatre and other arts education. Up to ten representatives will be selected annually in a competitive process.
