The Tony Awards® Administration Committee has announced that based on the recommendation by the American Theatre Critics Association, TheatreWorks Silicon Valley will be the recipient of the 2019 Regional Theatre Tony Award. The honor is accompanied by a grant of $25,000, made possible by City National Bank's generous support of the Creative Arts Awards.

Four prestigious grants of $10,000 each, as well as additional support in the form of residencies, concerts, and recording grants, totaling over $50,000, were presented at a private event at the WNYC Greene Space.

The National Endowment for the Arts is supporting the next generation of American songwriters. For the second year and in collaboration with the American Theatre Wing, the Arts Endowment is calling for applications from high school students to the agency's Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge. This national program is for students with a passion for writing songs that could be part of a musical theater production and the wide range of musical styles represented in contemporary musical theater including hip-hop, rock, R&B, country, jazz, and more.

The American Theatre Wing announced today the recipients of the Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative's programming, including the 4-Year University Scholarships, the Training Scholarships, and the Classroom Resources Grants. The Tony Awards and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) will once again recognize an exemplary teacher with the "Excellence in Theatre Education Award," to be presented at the 2019 Tony Awards on Sunday, June 9, 2019.

The American Theatre Wing announced today that, due to popular demand, their centennial book, American Theatre Wing, an Oral History: 100 Years, 100 Voices, 100 Million Miracles (Graphic Arts Books; edited by Patrick Pacheco), will receive a second printing. Copies of the book are now available at all major retailers.

La MaMa celebrates its 2018 Regional Theatre Tony Award at its 57th Season Gala on Thursday, October 25 at 6 pm in the Ellen Stewart Theatre (66 E. 4 St.). The Gala evening will honor the Tony Award-winning playwright Lisa Kron (FUN HOME) and will feature performances by downtown icons Taylor Mac and Erin Markey, rising star Gunnar Montana and a musical ensemble of Broadway and Off-Broadway performers singing A Change Will Come by the late La MaMa artist Elizabeth Swados. Mia Yoo is Artistic Director of La MaMa.
