Live Arts Theater has announced a dynamic lineup of four plays, a powerhouse musical, and a new works festival for its 2023/24 Expectations Season. The 33rd anniversary season opens with Anton Chekhov's UNCLE VANYA performed in rotating repertory with LIFE SUCKS. by Aaron Posner, followed by a holiday offering-the sequel to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice-MISS BENNET: CHRISTMAS AT PEMBERLEY by Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon. The Tony award-winning musical KINKY BOOTS hits the Live Arts stage in the new year, with music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper and book by Harvey Fierstein, followed by the Virginia premiere of the powerful two-hander FIREFLIES by Donja R. Love. The Expectations Season closes with the return of the Live Arts WATERWORKS festival, a month-long celebration of new theatrical works that brought in more than 600 submissions and engaged hundreds of volunteers during its inaugural year.
From September 20 thru October 1, the Provincetown Theater at 238 Bradford Street in Provincetown, MA will revive its critically acclaimed production of Harvey Fierstein’s Casa Valentina for a limited run of 10-performances.
Lea Michele will be out of both performances of Funny Girl as she is under the weather, per an announcement from the production. Julie Benko will play Fanny Brice at both performances today, and her regularly scheduled performance tomorrow. Lea Michele is expected to return to the show Friday, September 1st.
These live dates follow the recent release of remixes of Depeche Mode’s “Wagging Tongue,” taken from their latest album Memento Mori, Brooklyn up-and-comers Nation Of Language’s track “Weak In Your Light.”, as well as a reworking (‘Interpolation’) of Interpol track “Greenwich.”
The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) has announced the appointment of Charlotte Sutton as the company’s new Head of Casting. Sutton is currently an Artistic Associate of the Young Vic; and was the Casting Associate at Chichester Festival Theatre from 2017 to 2023. She joins the company effective as of November this year.

Broadway says goodbye to productions. Funny Girl takes its final bow at the August Wilson Theatre following 130 previews and 599 regular performances; and Once Upon a One More Time will conclude its run at the Marquis Theatre following 42 previews and 81 regular performances.
