Premiere Stages, the professional theatre company in residence at Kean University, is accepting submissions for the 19th annual Premiere Play Festival beginning Friday, September 1.

The Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre, Inc. has announced its 18th season. MET, renown for producing Masterwork and Contemporary Classics, will present three plays and two musicals for the 2022-2023 season.

Due to popular demand, the critically acclaimed play GRATITUDE written by playwright Oren Safdie, and directed by Maria Mileaf, will add an additional performance on Monday, June 27 at 7:30 PM.

This year’s honorees have all starred on the Urban Stages stage during their careers and include Tony Award winner Reed Birney will be presented with Urban Stages’ Luminary Award and Terence Archie, Nikki M. James, and AJ Shively will receive a mid-career award.

Now & Then Creative Company continues their 3rd season of successful workshops by Arizona writers with HIT MUSIC - - book + lyrics by Guillermo Reyes, music by Carlos Urtubey - - a heart warming, foot stomping, and unpredictable new musical from one of the Valley's finest writers. 'Guillermo is a local favorite with national recognition,' says Artistic Director John Perovich. 'His writing is simultaneously endearing and hilarious - - sometimes heart breaking. With HIT MUSIC, Reyes ventures into the world of musical theatre and has given us an entire family to enjoy as they navigate the difficulties of growing older with the threats of growing apart.'

The Urban Stages' Retrospective (October 11- November 10) will feature ten plays from the past three decades. In addition, there will be a special musical evening celebrating selections from past Urban Stages' musicals on November 5 and two family-friendly shows that have toured schools and libraries via Urban Stages' Outreach.

Theater Alliance launches Season 16 with the WORD BECOMES ACTION FESTIVAL. Building on the success of last year's inaugural festival, this second annual festival explores themes from upcoming productions and bringing together performances, readings, and workshops to illuminate divergent perspectives. The festival is made possible thanks to the support of The Revada Foundation and DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.

Urban Stages' Board of Directors and founding artistic director Frances Hill will celebrate 'The Magic of Theater by presenting the 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award to legendary actor Jim Date at their Gala Benefit.   The event will be held at the Boathouse in Central Park at 6:30PM on May 14, 2018. The award will be presented by stage and screen star Simon Jones (Farinelli and the King, The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy).
