Last month, Seattle Rep announced its exciting new program Plays in Process, a virtual series that offers audiences guided and rare exposure to the raw, behind-the-scenes collaborative process of creating a play, featuring new works on the horizon at Seattle Rep.

Until the Flood, was originally commissioned and produced by The Repertory Theatre of St Louis, and subsequently produced around the United States and in Ireland, Scotland, and England, with the same performer, director, and creative team.

As the holiday season comes to a close, A Christmas Carol—An Audio Play is still available to stream through December 31. Recorded at the Goodman by an all-Chicago cast of 19 and an updated audio adaptation, the 43rd annual production is Goodman Theatre’s gift to Chicago this year. 

Steep Theatre will welcome several new members to its ensemble of artists. Laura Alcalá Baker, Debo Balogun, Chris Chmelik, Destini Huston, Omer Abbas Salem, and Joe Schermoly are Steep’s newest Ensemble Members. All six of these artists have played pivotal roles in Steep’s artistic development over the past several years, and the company is honored to have them involved in shaping the organization’s future.

National New Play Network, the country's alliance of nonprofit theaters that collaborate in innovative ways to develop, produce, and extend the life of new plays, has announced the recipient of this year's Annual Commission: Nambi E. Kelley, in partnership with San Diego Repertory Theatre, will develop her new play, Project American X.

Paramount Theatre in Aurora will launch next month The Inception Project, a new play development initiative designed to create artist driven, courageous, thought provoking new work in a radically inclusive environment. 

Hosted by Braden Abraham, Plays in Process will feature top playwrights, directors, actors, and musicians including Uma Thurman (Kill Bill), Cheryl L. West (Shout Sister Shout!), David Strathairn (Good Night and Good Luck), Taylor Schilling (“Orange is the New Black”), E. Faye Butler (Pullman Porter Blues), Erica Schmidt (MAC BETH), and more.

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces its lineup of Winter classes featuring classes catered to families, theater lovers, students, adults and emerging theater artists. The Voices of Now Mead Ensemble for young artists will begin this winter, meeting virtually to contribute to a new original film. Just in time for the holidays, this robust line of programming has something for everyone and makes the perfect unique gift for the theater lover in your family.

The Show Must Go Online has announced the livestreamed production of New York Times Bestselling author Ian Doescher's William Shakespeare's A Christmas Carol. The production will be streamed live on 19 December, 7pm and will be available for 48 hours following.

Broadway On Demand will present #ENOUGH: Plays to End Gun Violence, a ground-breaking production of this year’s seven selected 10-minute plays confronting gun violence, written and submitted by high school students from across the country.

Goodman Theatre will participate in the Digital Premiere of seven winning 10-minute plays of #ENOUGH: Plays to End Gun Violence—a national short play competition for middle and high school students.

PlayMakers Laboratory has announced the appointment of Raven Stubbs as the company's new Program Director. Stubbs is responsible for overseeing all of PML's educational activities, including in-school programming, after-school programming, professional development and training new teaching artists. Stubbs succeeds Shá Norman, who has served in the position since 2017.

The Alliance Theatre has announced its participation in the Digital Premiere of the seven winning plays of #ENOUGH: Plays to End Gun Violence, a national short play competition for middle and high school students, in-collaboration with fellow partner theatres including Arizona Theatre Company, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Goodman Theatre, Orlando Repertory Theatre, and South Coast Repertory. Starting on December 14, 2020 — the 8-year remembrance of the shootings at Sandy Hook — the winning titles will be available on the streaming platform Broadway on Demand.

Chicago director/producer/choreographer Zoe Lesser will direct her own new adaptation of the comedy by W.R. Walkes. In A PAIR OF LUNATICS, which premiered in London in 1898, He and She meet for the first time in an asylum and each mistakes the other for an inmate.  

Door Shakespeare has announced the third offering in 2020's Door Shakespeare Reading Series: Dream Upon Avon, by Wisconsin's own John Kishline, running Friday, December 11 through Sunday, December 13. Shows are Friday and Saturday at 7:00, and Sunday at 5:00. The Door Shakespeare Reading is free, with donations encouraged. Since the announcement of Jon Carr's upcoming departure to The Second City to serve as their new Executive Producer, the Dad's Garage board has selected an Interim Artistic Director to lead the company: former Dad's Garage ensemble member Tim Stoltenberg.

Barrington Stage Company has announced the 2020 Associate Artists – lighting designer David Lander, director/choreographer Jeffrey Page and actress Alysha Umphress. The Associate Artists program’s honorees include choreographer Joshua Bergasse, director Joe Calarco, costume designer Jen Caprio, and more.

The League of Chicago Theatres has awarded the first Samuel G. Roberson Jr. Resident Fellowship to playwright Kristiana Rae Colón and Congo Square Theatre to fund a one-year residency for Colón at the theatre.
