BroadwayWorld has compiled a sampling of movie musical trailers from the 2000s onward, some of which are clearly musicals and others that are less obvious. 

Spellbound, an animated fantasy musical, will be arriving on November 22. Ahead of its release, BroadwayWorld has collected all the information available about the upcoming film including who's lending their voices to the characters, who wrote the new songs, and where to see it in November.

Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Spellbound, the animated musical by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater featuring the voice of Rachel Zegler. Spellbound follows the adventures of Ellian, the tenacious young daughter of the rulers of Lumbria who must go on a daring quest to save her family and kingdom after a mysterious spell transforms her parents into monsters. What did our critic think of THE LITTLE MERMAID at White Theatre?

On July 24, the performing arts training institute Hi Jakarta Production and art foundation Ciputra Artpreneur held a media preview of their upcoming musical, School of Rock the Musical. The show is based on the iconic 2003 movie starring Jack Black and licensed through Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Really Useful Group.

Sister Act ranks pretty high up as one of my favorite movies, so getting to see SISTER ACT JR at The Royal Theatre in Benton was a real treat. From July 11-21, the Young Players performed to packed houses with some of those shows being sold out. It is astounding that these thespians put out such a great performance. I am excited to continue to watch them grow throughout their theatrical endeavors.

Dear Readers, the musical version of the hit 1992, Whoopi Goldberg comedy “Sister Act” has never been one of my favorites. On paper it should work with an Alan Menken score and fabulous source material were it not for those lackluster Glenn Slater lyrics. He writes passable songs but nothing that truly grabs you. But it’s a big, flashy musical with nuns rocking out so it isn’t all bad. But I must emphasize “big”, which is why the choice to put this up on Taproot Theatre’s quite cozy space baffled me. However, director Bretteney Beverly managed it. Sure, there were some downfalls, but overall, she managed it.
