SOKOLOW THEATRE/DANCE ENSEMBLE, in its first season under the artistic direction of Samantha Geracht, will appear in rarely seen works by legendary American modern dance pioneer Anna Sokolow, including her Moods, which has not been performed since the late 1970's, along with Dreams and Preludes. The Company will be joined by guests Jennifer Conley, former soloist with the Martha Graham Dance Company, performing Sokolow's solo Poem, and Clarence Brooks, former Company member, in ?Sweet in the Morning, ?by choreographer Leni Wylliams. In addition to seeing some wonderful performance, the great things about wring reviews are that you to get to think, learn, and write. So it was with last Thursday's Firstworks production of AMERICAN RHAPSODY: THE GERSHWIN SONGBOOK with Michael Andrew, Michelle Amato and seventeen piece Gershwin Big Band before a nearly full-house at Veterans Auditorium in Providence. The music was fabulous and I have been thinking about it and the Gershwins ever since.
92nd Street Y's 48th season of Lyrics & Lyricists continues with an essential American story, Irving Berlin: American, celebrating Berlin's extraordinary life and work. On the occasion of the centenary of the writing of "God Bless America" - our nation's "other anthem," - artistic director, co-writer and choreographer, Noah Racey (Lyrics & Lyricists veteran, Thoroughly Modern Millie), and co-writer Cheryl L. Davis (Barnstormer, Maid's Door, Bridges) explore how the five-year-old Russian immigrant who arrived at Ellis Island speaking no English came to create songs that epitomize American music, and how he became the spokesman in song for the country that allowed him to flourish. The cast is stacked with actor/dancer/singer triple threats: Stephen DeRosa (A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum), Holly Butler (On the Town), Danny Gardner ( Dames at Sea, Crazy for You), Emily Hsu (The Unsinkable Molly Brown), Richard Riaz Yoder (Hello, Dolly!) and Pace University theater student Jada Temple.
Tippet Rise Art Center, set on a 10,260-acre working ranch at the foot of Montana's Beartooth Mountains, today announced the programs for its third concert season, comprising more than 25 recitals and chamber music concerts from July 6 through September 8, 2018. Bringing together an international roster of celebrated artists-some who have already made the art center one of their summer homes, others who will be marking their debuts at Tippet Rise, this third season will include extraordinary concentrations of masterworks by Johann Sebastian Bach and of varied and exciting compositions from the 20th and 21st centuries. Other programs will feature immersions into the Romantic repertoire-one of the hallmarks of Tippet Rise-and the world premiere of a new piece by Aaron Jay Kernis, commissioned by Tippet Rise and performed by the Borromeo String Quartet.

The story and music of America's Composer come to life on stage with Seattle Repertory Theatre's presentation of Hershey Felder as Irving Berlin, a play-with-music written and performed by award-winning actor and musician Hershey Felder (Broadway's George Gershwin Alone, Off-Broadway's Maestro; Our Great Tchaikovsky, and others).
