The Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA), New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson, New York City Council Member Margaret S. Chin, and Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer held a joint press conference on Saturday, April 13, 2019 to announce that MOCA has been allocated $2.3 million in capital funding in the city's fiscal year 2019 budget to help the Museum acquire its current premises at 215 Centre Street. Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen and the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) Acting Commissioner Anne del Castillo today announced the first round of grant recipients of the "Made in NY" Women's Film, TV & Theatre Fund. Funds were awarded to 63 film, TV, theatre and digital media projects made by creative entrepreneurs who identify as women. This is the first round of a $5 million, three-year program funded by MOME and administered by New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA). (more...)

Today the City launched a call for proposals to install large scale, temporary artwork on protective construction structures - such as construction fences and sheds - throughout the five boroughs. The 24-month pilot program, City Canvas, is a collaboration between the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, the Office of the Mayor, and the NYC Department of Buildings designed to improve the city's visual landscape, while giving artists and organizations opportunities to bring their work to public space. El Museo del Barrio is pleased to re-open its Galerias (Galleries) to the public on September 13, 2018, after a ten month-long renovation of its mechanical and control systems, including heating, air-conditioning and humidification. The renovation, also known as the Gallery Environmental Stabilization Project (The Project) was generously funded with $4.85 million from the City of New York, including support from the New York City Council, the Office of the Mayor, and the Office of the Manhattan Borough President.
