New York Live Arts 2017 Live Ideas Gala, co-chaired by Sarah Arison, Slobodan Randjelovic, and Jon Stryker and with award-winning actors Kathleen Turner and Delroy Lindo as masters of ceremony, pays tribute to Live Arts' annual Live Ideas Festival. The Gala will take place at the Highline Ballroom, located at 431 W 16th Street, New York City on Monday, April 3 with a cocktail reception at 6:30pmfollowed by the dinner and program at 7:15pm.

Hispanic Society presents Capital Master Plan at a Legislative Breakfast

The Hon. Mark Levine, Council Member 7th District; the Hon. Ydanis Rodriguez, Council Member 10th District; and the Hon. Gale A. Brewer, Manhattan Borough President co-hosted a Legislative Breakfast and Presentation of the Capital Master Plan of the Hispanic Society Museum & Library on January 13th from 9:00 to 11:00 am at the Hispanic Society Museum & Library, located at Broadway between 155th and 156th streets. Philippe de Montebello, Chairman of the Hispanic Society, made the welcoming remarks and Mitchell A. Codding, Executive Director of the Hispanic Society, introduced the elected officials. Maria Romañach Architects presented the Master Plan of the Hispanic Society.

Mark DeGarmo Dance will honor dance writer DEBORAH JOWITT with the 2016 “Educational Visionary” Lifetime Achievement Award to celebrate her many accomplishments.  Ms. Jowitt danced with notable names such as José Limon and Anna Sokolow, choreographed works shown in venues in both the United States and overseas, published articles in The New York Times, The Village Voice and Dance Magazine, among others, and has lectured, taught and conducted workshops at universities in the U.S. and abroad.  The award is presented to “visionaries who have promoted innovation in education through the arts.” Fellow dance writer, dancer and choreographer, Gus Solomons, jr., will present Ms. Jowitt's award and comedian Nat Towsen, host of Nat Towsen's Downtown Variety Hour, will serve as Master of Ceremonies throughout the evening. New York's “Dance Party of the Year” includes hors d'oeuvres, drinks, a performance by our students, a dance lesson from our teaching artists and a silent auction featuring gift certificates, dinners, vacations, and more.

NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP, today joined Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer, Assembly Member Linda Rosenthal, Manhattan Community Board 7 Chair Elizabeth Caputo, John Herrold, Riverside Park Administrator / President, Riverside Park Conservancy and community members to cut the ribbon on the newly reconstructed 79th Street Boat Basin A-Dock in Riverside Park, Manhattan. A-Dock had been closed for several years due to substructure piling deterioration and Superstorm Sandy incurred damage. The restored 370-foot fixed pier is now re-opened to the public. NYC Parks and AT&T Expand Free Public Wi-fi & Solar Mobile Charging

NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FACIP, today joined AT&T's New York President Marissa Shorenstein, Bronx Borough President Rueben Diaz, Jr. and community members to announce a deal to extend free public AT&T Wi-Fi in the Parks for an additional five years. The free Wi-Fi is available, regardless of wireless carrier, to parkgoers at 27 locations in 21 parks across the five boroughs. The collaboration increases the number of free solar mobile charging stations to 34 units at 15 parks and beaches; and four new parks will receive the popular AT&T Street Charge units-Queens Flushing Meadows Park at David Dinkins Circle and Ederle Terrace, Brooklyn's Sunset Park and Prospect Park at the LeFrak Center and Joyce Kilmer Park in the Bronx, where the announcement was made.

NYC Parks & Randalls Island Park Alliance Launch 'East Harlem Esplanade Project'

NYC Parks and the Randall's Island Park Alliance (RIPA) today announced the launch of the East Harlem Esplanade Project. In support of NYC Parks' Community Parks Initiative (CPI), through the East Harlem Esplanade Project, RIPA will facilitate the creation of a strategic plan to guide reconstruction advocacy, stewardship and programming best practices for an improved Esplanade along East Harlem, including a span from E. 96 to E. 125 streets. The East Harlem Esplanade Project is supported by New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, New York State Senator Jose M. Serrano, New York State Assembly Member Robert Rodriguez, and Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer.

NYC Department of Cultural Affairs Releases Overview of Survey Results Measuring Staff, Board Diversity

The NYC Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) today announced results of a survey examining the diversity of staff and leadership at City-funded nonprofit cultural organizations. The survey release marks a major milestone in the agency's initiative to promote and cultivate diversity in the cultural community, building on the de Blasio Administration's commitment to making New York City a more fair and equitable city for every resident. The survey found that while New York City's cultural sector is far more diverse than cultural organizations on the national level, it lags behind the demographic diversity of the city's population.

Lincoln Center's Boro-Linc Program to Expand in January 2016

Lincoln Center's off-campus Boro-Linc program for families and children will expand to Manhattan, starting in 2016. With this new partner, and another in Brooklyn later this year, Lincoln Center realizes its commitment to host the program in communities across all five boroughs of New York City. Through Boro-Linc, Lincoln Center partners with local arts and community centers around the city to present free performances, workshops, and family-oriented programs by Lincoln Center resident organizations in neighborhoods, working to break down geographic barriers and create greater access to its diverse arts and cultural offerings for all audiences and ages.

Entertainment Industry Brings $8.7 Billion into New York City Economy

Mayor Bill de Blasio, Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen, and Media & Entertainment Commissioner Cynthia Lopez today announced that New York City's filmed entertainment industry now contributes $8.7 billion to the local economy, an increase of more than 1.5 billion, or 21 percent, since 2011. Full-time equivalent jobs in the city's industry have grown 10 percent, from 94,000 to 104,000 over the last four years, according to an independent study conducted by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) that details the growth and economic impact of New York City's media and entertainment industries. According to BCG's report, New York City is one of only three cities in the world with a filming community large enough to enable a production to be made without needing any roles to be brought in from other locations, including cast, crew members, and the creative team. Additionally, a rich real-life history, iconic locations, diverse storytellers and top talent are among the reasons productions choose to film in New York City.
