Today, ABFF Ventures announced Cynthia Erivo will receive the a?oeRising Star Awarda?? at the 2020 ABFF Honors. The fourth annual ceremony, hosted by actor and comedian Deon Cole, will take place on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.

National Geographic, with Imagine Television Studios and Fox 21 Television Studios, announced today that Tony®-, Emmy®- and Grammy® Award-winning Cynthia Erivo (“Harriet,” Broadway's “The Color Purple”) will star as Aretha Franklin in the next installment of the Emmy-winning global anthology series Genius: Aretha. This upcoming season will be the first-ever, definitive and only authorized scripted limited series on the life of the universally acclaimed Queen of Soul. Filming will start this November for a spring 2020 premiere on National Geographic channels in 172 countries and 43 languages.
Tribeca Film Festival 2019 Announces Feature Film Lineup

The 2019 Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, today unveiled its feature film lineup. Continuing its tradition of elevating exceptional storytelling rooted in today's global film communities, the 18th annual Festival will showcase debut works from emerging talent and new works from notable filmmakers. The program includes discoveries, comedies, music-centered, political and social films. The 2019 Tribeca Film Festival takes place April 24 - May 5.
Production Begins on Disney Junior's MIRA, ROYAL DETECTIVE

Production has begun on 'Mira, Royal Detective,' an animated mystery-adventure series for preschoolers slated to debut on Disney Junior channels and programming blocks around the world in 2020. Set in the magical Indian-inspired land of Jalpur, the series follows the brave and resourceful Mira, a commoner who is appointed to the role of royal detective after solving a mystery that involves saving the kingdom's young prince. The role of Mira will be voiced by 15-year-old newcomer Leela Ladnier. The announcement was made today by Joe D'Ambrosia, senior vice president, Original Programming, Disney Junior.

The World Premiere of Netflix's Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, will be held in Mumbai on November 25th, 2018 with director and star Andy Serkis joined by Christian Bale, Freida Pinto, Louis Ashbourne Serkis and newcomer Rohan Chand who plays Mowgli in the film.

Leslie Odom Jr. will star in an ABC comedy with Kerry Washington executive producing, according to Variety. ABC has given the comedy a put pilot commitment and it is inspired by the experiences of real-life pastors Touré Roberts and Sarah Jakes-Roberts.

The 4th Annual Asian World Film Festival (AWFF) has announced that actresses Lisa Lu and Awkwafina will be honored with the Snow Leopard Awards at the festival's closing night ceremony, November 1 at the ArcLight Cinema in Downtown Culver City (9500 Culver Blvd.) AWFF is once again partnering with The Snow Leopard Trust to raise awareness for the endangered snow leopard and its ecosystem in the high mountains of Asia. The Asian World Film Festival, which includes 16 Oscar® and seven Golden Globe® Foreign Language submissions, will run through October 24 – November 1, 2018.

The theme of the 2018 AWFF celebrates women in film, a nod to the growing role of women in the Asian entertainment business and the #metoo movement. ABC has given a 13-episode straight-to-series order to a new crime drama starring Poppy Montgomery, produced by ABC Studios and ABC Studios International in partnership with M6. Montgomery will also executive produce the series, which is based on her idea, along with Ken Sanzel, who will write the series as well as serve as showrunner.

BRON Studios has come on as a producer of Oscar® winner John Ridley's NEEDLE IN A TIMESTACK. Zanne Devine, David Thwaites and BRON'S Aaron L. Gilbert are producing and today announced that Tony and Grammy Award winner Leslie Odom Jr., BAFTA nominee Freida Pinto, Tony, Emmy and Grammy Award winner Cynthia Erivo, and SAG award winner Orlando Bloom will star. Ridley will direct and is adapting from a short story by Robert Silverberg where a couple work to hold their marriage together in a world where time travel is possible, and the past and present are ever fluctuating.
