The most striking observation about Mark St. Germain's two-character play a?oeDancing Lessonsa?? is that its main characters spend more time palavering and less time learning how to dance. The story revolves around a socially awkward young science professor who, one day, hires a professional dancer to be his dancing coach. The guy, Ever Montgomery (Randy Villarama), is scheduled to attend a prestigious award ceremony, which may require him to socialize among guests and peers and, worse, dance with someone in public. You see, for most people, this situation hardly poses a dilemma, but with someone diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome like Ever, this is too daunting a task to be taken just sitting down.

In theater, ensemble pieces (“Angels In America,” “Noises Off”) and one-man/woman shows (“I'll Eat You Last,” “Springsteen on Broadway”) are more pervasive than the two-handers or plays featuring two actors. How lucky, then, here comes along the heartwarming two-hander “Dancing Lessons,” written by Mark St. Germain (“Freud's Last Session”-Off-Broadway).

U.S.-based musical theater actors Kevin Hack (Tony), Jenna Burns (Maria), Keely Beirne (Anita), Lance Hayes (Riff), and Waldemar Quinones-Villanueva (Bernardo) lead the triple threat cast of the 60th-anniversary touring company of 'West Side Story,' which originated in Germany, now playing at The Theatre at Solaire (Solaire Resort and Casino along ASEAN Avenue in Paranaque City) until Sunday, August 27.

Nikki Gil, TV personality, actress and recording artist, seems to be fascinated playing off-beat characters in stage musicals. Gil made her theater debut as blonde sorority star Elle Woods last year. And she's set to grace the stage again starring as dancer-for-hire Charity Hope Valentine in 9 Works Theatrical's production of the Broadway musical comedy Sweet Charity in August.

Jonathan Larson's ground breaking rock musical 'Rent' has arguably developed a life of its own. And 9 Works Theatrical's third endeavour of mounting the show is one tangible proof -- 'Rent' runs anew at the Carlos P.
