Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation, the not-for-profit foundation of Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, today announced the recipient and six finalists for the inaugural Barbara Whitman Award. Chance Theater has announced that the Orange County premiere of Neil Bertram and Brian Hill’s musical, The Story of My Life will be the first show in their 23rd Anniversary Season. The musical is directed by Matthew McCray (The Other Place), with music direction by Robyn Manion (Ragtime).

The impact on American theatre of N. Richard Nash's THE RAINMAKER, a mid-century, self-described Romantic Comedy, is primarily found in its formidable presence (exceeded only by OUR TOWN) in any and all monologue and scene-study books. The leads, 'Lizzie' and 'Starbuck', are ever present at auditions, duo-acting tournaments, and Intro to Acting courses in high schools and colleges coast-to-coast. Despite it's not uncommon presence in local theatre, I'd never seen the full play before attending Hale Centre Theatre's current production. The play is culturally dated most certainly but made enjoyable by some strong performances and deft staging by director Tim Dietlein.

Through a fictional narrative, the new original play For Bo explores the issues that led to Botham Jean's death in 2018 at the hands of Dallas police officer Amber Guyger. For Bo, which debuted as a staged reading on the TCU campus in February 2020, is written by Theatre TCU faculty member Ayvaunn Penn.
